Mazdaspeed 3

Don't know if anyone posted this but, I was just reading January's issue of Money Magazine and they have a little article about the upcoming Mazdaspeed Miata. In the article they also mention the upcoming Mazdaspeed 3. They say it is expected in early 2005 with at least 200HP turbo motor or possibly a 240HP version if Mazda decides to offer AWD. It will then be followed by the Mazdaspeed 6. Sounds cool.

I really, really hope they make a Mazdaspeed3, only instead of AWD (WRX territory) make it RWD to really stand out in the sport compact territory and kick some SRT-4 arse!!!!

So if they go with the AWD version, does that also mean we will get some kind of a Focus RS variant over here as well. They both share the same platform, don't they.

Personally, I think Mazda should bring an AWD version and get into the WRC with it.

Ummm, again, and dont anyone give me s*** for posting this, but Mazda has no 4 door cars slated to be released with the MAzdaspeed brand.

I recieved this information at SEMA from the head of the MAzdaspeed program.

Again, no one give me s***, Im just a messenger.

I won't "give you s***," but I will tell you that you are misinformed.

I don't know who you talked to at SEMA, but if they did give you that information, they gave you false information.

Please stop spreading this rumor on the net.

He talked to the head of the Mazdaspeed program! :p

Go get 'em Eric!!!

I second that!!! There may not be any "official", ready for release plans at the moment but...........

Tom:D

Boost, I know you got your info from a good source(a damn good source) but this is at least the third media outlet to report an ongoing Mazdaspeed program. Are they just flat out lying?

IMHO, I don't think the "source" was lying. The info is not ready for official release.....therefore there are no official plans for a 4 door Mazdaspeed release at this time

This is exactly it...if you are not on what the company feels as a need to know basis, you don't get any info...and usually get standard protocol for keeping future specs secret...

This is why there are spy pics in magazines...Anyone who is told info about a future product is expected to keep it secret...But through them rumors usually start, that are 9 times out of 10 somewhat accurate...The head of Mazdaspeed would never be corporately allowed to make any coments about a product that hasn't even been fully designed yet...But that in no we reflects if one will ever be made or when...BMW claimed a few weeks before the new 5-series release that there are absolutely no plans for a new M5 yet...and that after careful consideration of 5's sales will determine if one will ever be made...Not even a week later, an employee of the "Nurbergring" was able to snap photo's of the testing of a V-10 M5, he had the camera hidden and was able to pop pictures of the V-10 badging...all wrapped with black vinyl, but noticably larger tires and frontend...After he was caught, the testers demanded that he pull the film from the camera, but he still got them to magazines or whoever...hardly justifies BMW's claim of "no plans for an M5 yet"...within a few more weeks, BMW confesed and released some info on the future car...It is way to early to know what Mazda will do with MS future cars, but if the MS miata is a success...a lot more will pop up very quickly most likely...

I second whoever said to go RWD. When's the last time we got a compact RWD car under 20K eh? Don't know how weight balance is going to be though.

Better weight balance than FWD definately...but more weight than FWD and less weight than AWD...I doubt that would happen...For RWD the engine would probably have to be mounted longitudinally, and the chassis is not designed for that...The AWD system was supposedly slated as an eventual option anyway, and uses simlar engine placement as other compact AWD cars...

Also RWD would not sit well with most of the compact market...AWD can be argued as good for the wet and snow, but RWD would not be in any case...it wouldn't appear as a good all year car to most potential buyers...
