I am interested in getting the Cobb downpipe and running the stage 2 map on the accesport tuner while still using the factory cat back exhaust on my 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. Does anyone have any experience or know of any issues that might arise with this combination?

I don't know any reason why you could not. I'm not running AP, but I am running Hypertech tune at 18-19 psi with a completely catless TurboXS downpipe and race pipe into the stock CBE. See signature below. All works together quite fine.

I believe you will find that the stock CBE will outflow your K04 turbo's maximum flow rate on any tune and even with a 3 inch catless exhaust up to the stock CBE. It is only when you get north of 300 whp, which usually requires a bigger turbo, that you will need a higher flowing CBE.

Yeah I just don't see the point in spending over $500 on a cbe that is only a half inch bigger than stock (especially when the factory exhaust sound nice when you remove the resonators). Also the cobb downpipe goes from 3 inches down to 2.5 inches where it bolts up to the factory cbe. Still hoping to hear from someone who has actually done this with the cobb app but I appreciate the input from both of you.

Installed the cobb donwpipe with stock cat back exhaust (did do a resonator delete though) and I am running the stage 2 app and seem to have no problems yet. Only have had the DP on two days though. Just thought I would share this in case someone else was wondering.

How you like your Cobb downpipe ? I'm thinking of getting one but debating between Cobb downpipe and CNT.

Thanks

I don't see any problem, but just realise that 3" offer 44% more area than 2.5", so a possibility of 44% more flow (that you don't need).

Go with the Cobb DP. It costs more, but well worth it in quality!
