The differing sizes of the MAF housing can cause the mass air flow sensor to read different values for the same amount of air flowing through.
Since the AP is not a tool used to tune, but rather just a reflash, then having an intake with a different MAF housing size can cause your car to run richer or leaner. depending on what the flash does.
Since the MS cai is such a popular option though, I am 100% sure that cobb will release a map that can be used with the MS cai safely. So don't worry, I say get the cai.
Also, I had heard the exact opposite as you Jays^, the Mazdaspeed CAI has a larger MAF and no straightener and is in cases causing people to throw CELs. CPE, Cobb, and stock are the only options that nobody has once (to my knowledge) had any issues with.
Hello, I am trying to get a handle on what the I.D.'s are for the maf sensor housings on the various Speed 3 intakes. I am looking for the measurement of the cross section at the maf. My readings are done with the pipes and sensor out. Stock in inches is between 2 5/8" and 2 11/16" so a good bit over the assumed 2 1/2" that has been rumored around here.

Of course, all those with the CPE CAI are going to be sad when they drive their car in the first little sprinkle and because of hydrolock the wheels lock up, the engine falls out, and the flux capacitor redlines into terminal and the resulting neutrino release destroys all organic life, on Earth, as we know it.
I read that cobb will release a map for the ms cai, since there were so many potential customers worried about it. Since when do people with the ms cai throw cels. I haven't heard of a single CEL caused by the ms intake
yes you do but any authorized dealer should have the software to make you a map.
yeah that costs in the range of $300-$400 for a dyno tune.

The accessport come with a few maps pre-loaded, like Stage1 for a stock car or Stage2 for a TBE..etc.
they will most likely NOT make a map specifically for the MS CAI..why? because why would they do that when they sell their own intake? If you want to run another intake you can either bolt it on and hope for the best or get a customer map built from a tuner in the range listed above.
For the WRX, cobb does not support any intake other than the Cobb short ram. Any other intake and a custom tune is recommended.
from what i understand, the lack of straighteners in the MS CAI messes up the AFR. all mention i've read about it says that it runs leaner than stock. the important part is that whether the diameter of the MAF is the same or not, it's still not giving stock AFR, so that messes up any ECU flash that the AP uses. i really don't think that Cobb should be responsible for anything other than a stock AFR and TBE with their default stage 1 and stage 2 flashes. hell, if they went ahead and did that, it would take even longer to release the AP, so tell me what you would prefer: AP + $175 worst case to get a cobb SRI or AP + undetermined extra delay till release? oO
