Mazda's Paint Sucks

Ok I've had it with this super thin paint Mazda put on my car, Every single time I drive it, it comes back with paint chips on the front bumper. Today I got one the size of a dime right around the lower grill area:mad:

Looks like I'll be buying the full front bra, God I hate those things!

Take the car back to the dealer and insist that they have someone from Mazda look at it. If it is as bad as you say Mazda might step up to the plate. Don't let the dealer make the call, have a Mazda rep take a look.

I was talking about this with a friend that works at a dealer. He says that if there are enough chips in an area that they will have that part of the car repainted.

It is work a try.

after all...what is the WORST thing they could say? NO? and all you are out is a trip to the dealer...big deal...

give it a shot.

paint

i agree the paint job i got on my yellow sucks huge ass. i have nothing but problems with it since the day i got it. the front bumper area is the worst. it's almost like it never dried properly. the feels almost sticky all the time.

i also have this other problem maybe someone can help with. i tried to wax my car the other day with mothers carnuba wax stuff. i used the proper towels and all. i noticed that as i waxed the car the cloth turned yellow like it was lifting paint. and i don't mean a little. i thought i was gonna take the paint right off. now this can't be normal. what do y'all think?

Is this an ongoing Mazda problem? Or is this specific to either P5's or even more specific to the Yellow P5's? Seems like most of the complaints here are from Yellow owners.

My car's blue and only a month old. No chips of any sort yet, should I be worried?

Having a waxing cloth turn seriously yellow would upset me too...I've never had that happen with any car I've owned.

I'd take it to the dealer as well.

I have a Midnight Blue one

The paint does seem sort of thin. I got one chip on the hood but it's only the size of a pin head. I do have a spot on my clear coat though that I noticed like 3 days after I got it. I'll wait till I wax the car and then use a high speed buffer. That might do the trick... I hope.

no problem here....not with paint coming off that is....no yellow on my towels either....

if i were you roswel....I would get my car back to the dealer soon

Actually I've had this problem to an extent with my MP3....I did bring it to my dealer and he said basically that paint chips happen and that's tough. I said that I've driven other vehicles and they don't chip so easily...but unfortunately that doesn't cut it.

He did say that he will lodge the complaint and will get the Mazda rep to take a look at it, but says it's quite unlikely they'll do anything about it. :(

My p5 is classic red and I hate tons of stone chips in the front hood and bumper. I must agree Mazda's paint is thin! I am getting a full front bra (even though I hate how it looks) or the invisible bra from 3M

This happened to me before I started posting here so this is the first time you guys will hear about it.

About a month after I got my car I'm on the highway and there a 2001 firebird a lane over and about 2 car lengths up. His t-top flies off, shatters in the road in front of me and showers my car with glass at 70mph. We both stop and at the scene the damage doesn't look that bad.

I had just come back from a road trip and there were lots of bugs and grime on my car.

I call the cops to get an accident report. They come out and even the cop can see there is at least a little bit of damage.

I call the guys insurance comp and I have to go to there office for an estimate. Anyhow, $2300 worth of damage.

My bumper, hood, both quarter panels, and side mirrors had to be painted. Both headlights and my windsheild had to be replaced for little chips.

It sucked not having a car for a week or two, but my paint is much better than before.

Sorry about the long post.

now i'm pissed.
after taking a closer look at the numerous chips on the front of my car i found one so deep that there is RUST coming from it.
i will be taking my protege5 down to mazda tomorrow and i will be raising hell.

my front bumper looks like it has black freckles all over it.

i did not pay 22,000 dollars for a car that has cheap paint.

i had a 96 ford escort for almost 6 years and it had ONE i'll say it again ONE chip on the front.

i cannot see how a car manufacturer can put such a useless paint job on car.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That was exactly my complaint when I took the car to the dealer. I said how I had a Civic for 2 years and had like 2 paint chips....of course he made up all these excuses like how we use lots of gravel here in the wintertime and other BS. I don't even drive my car everyday and when I do I'm pretty careful and yet still tons of chips...it's damn frustrating.

paint

i had the same problems with black flecks and other stuff in the paint......these little red spots that won't go away.

on a lighter note i went to the dealer today for my 32,000 service and told them about the paint. based on my description of the problem the service tech agreed that my problems are not normal and sound defective. i say based on my description because it was raining and hard to tell anything. the rep is coming in next week and they are gonna check out my paint.........do i smell new paint job.......i can only hope.

You guys are scraing me. I have a yellow P5 for about 90 days. So far there is not a single mark on it. Its 100% perfect. Im hoping (and dont mean to be selfesh) that there was a bad batch or something. Mabey they saw a problem and added an extra layer of paint or something to the later P5s. I dont no. but good luck to you guys with the paint chips, because I think I will be next

My car has just over 1600 miles on it & there's @ least 5 good size chips on the bumper & 2 nicks in the middle of the Hood. Its all from Highway driving during Spring/Summer months, I'd hate to see it after winter!

I own a yellow pro5 with over 6800 miles and it does not have one ding in the paint yet. The paint does seem thin compared to other makes of autos. The worst problem I have is every damn bug and road tar spot show big time.
Maby it was a limited lot of yellows that were affected by your paint issues. I hate car bras (unless it's a black car and then they don't show)
I have been considering this magnetic bra from www.protege5online.com They claim it is paintable so it just blends in. (However it only protects the hood not the front plastic)

i have a yellow p5 with only 16500 miles and it looks like someone took a sandblaster to the front bumper

we'll see!!!

going in today at 1pm to have the rep look at my paint. wish me luck.

i'll let y'all know what he/she says this afternoon.

Well, the wife's P5 is silver and we have had it for about 2.5 months and we had some chips on the front bumper after a week. Since then, we have accumulated a few more and even a cracked fog light. I don't know what the deal is, but we have soft paint and a loud engine at start-up. Mazda would be wise to respond somehow.
