Mazda3 "Ebay Intake" Review

I just recently bought a CAI off of ebay from k2motor (also k2motor.com) and am quite happy. Overall the grand total was $54 for the intake shipped. Shipping was fast too, 4 days!

Anyways, when i opened the box there were the 2 main pipes, a filter, and all the couplers. It didnt come with instructions but I used the Instructions for injens CAI off of their website. I dis-assembled the stock intake system and started to install. I then found out that the filter they provided was for 2.75'' piping and the filter is supposed to connect to 3'' so i made a run to the local auto-parts store to pick up a cheap "Spectre" Air filter for 3'' piping ($19.99).

Ok, now I put it all back together and it looks amazing! Started it up and it sounded amazing! Nice Deep Tone... Took it out for a spin, and it pulls considerably faster now id say around 6 or 7whp faster, thats on the butt dyno.

I Beat a new 4 door Si today so i am happy with my $75 no-name intake. And i reccomend it to anyone who wants more money for a different mod like bsd delete and corksport motor mount inserts and dosent care if they get stickers, a liscense plate frame or some duffel bag with it.

Pics might be up later

Are you sure it's not just faster throttle response?

I bought an intake very similar to the one you are describing for my P5 and at first it felt like I pulled harder, but after a while it became obvious that I wasn't much more powerful, but my revs responded to right foot better.

I'd spend a few bucks on a K&N filter when it's time to change it out.(burnout)

well to each his own, there is a reason mazda and injen spent thousands on tuning and dyno runs for there products...they give more than 7whp and they are the right size piping so you dont **** with calibration...but if you have no problems in the future then you saved 200 bucks over about 300 speed owners on this board alone

Once the research is done, it's not hard to just clone the final product from injen/aem.

It's just metal pipes with silicone connectors, not rocket science...

Also, I'd like to see how much more power an Injen would actually give. I mean, an intake should only give a few hp anyways, so the difference wouldn't be noticeable.

No one is that in tune with their car to notice a 1-2 hp difference, if it's even there. A dyno may pick it up, but the difference between an Injen and an Injen clone is pretty much zlitch. Well, unless you're looking at the $$.

i hope the pipe diameter is identicle to stock at the point of the MAF !! if not you are ruining your MAF readings, and in return not getting a proper A/F ratio !

You should have been able to do that with the stock intake.(dunno)

True, but his sig says that he has a 2004 Mazda 3s.

Yea i have no turbo(pow) but at 2200-2500rpm if i barley crack the tb with the pedal it sounds like a turbo spooling lol its great then at 7000rpm it sounds like my muffler is gone

Also the piping is the exact same as the injen (actually set it next to one of my friends) and the only thing that is different is the virbration mount his is bent mine is off set and straight.

I read this thread, and have been looking into CAI's so I talked to my friend about it and he said the materials or welding might be crap, so it might be similar for the first few months but after that it might fall apart....input?

I just got an ebay intake, the welds are fine. These intakes are not under anykind of stress. So the welds will hold just fine.

I had an issue with one of my welds...

the part that you bolt to your car broke on my Ebay intake. Too many pot holes...

I converted to a short ram and no more issues.

Oh, I have a P5, so it may not be the same intake. But I did get mine from ebay
