Mazda3 Sedan GS 2.0
The other day i was driving along a 3 lane open street in brampton... and a Mazda3 hatch (2.3) was beside me... I slowly sped up... he slowly sped up... then i down shifted to 2nd and booted it. He kept up... BARELY. at 120kph i backed off and he passed.

Is it possible that the 2.0 Manual would be faster than 2.3 auto?

I've seen enough factory inconsistencies to believe that it's possible he got a doggy 2.3 and you got a factory freak 2.0. That, or he didn't downshift to the correct gear. I think there's only 10hp difference between these two engines now, so if he had another person in the car, didn't have his tires aired up properly, had something heavy in the back, had his A/C on while you didn't, etc. there's nothing unbelievable about this.

yeah, I think it's possible too. I have a 1.6L manual and I dynoed like 2hp over a friends 2.0L auto. same day and same dyno

just the fact of being a manual makes ALL the diff in the world

manuals put more power to the wheels, less drivetrain loss of power

He clearly was not manually shifting, I had a Base 2.0 auto for a few days and manually shifting the 4SPD made it feel a whole lot peppier.

are you serious? manually shifting an automatic at WOT will at best yield the exact same results as just flooring and letting it shift at redline

automatics will beat u in the 1/4 mile tho if your not a perfect driver

na thats not true, people just choose auto's cause you get consitant times with them. when people do classes and they wanna stay at a certain class the times got to be as consitant as possible.

doesnt have anything to do with being faster.

I agree. I see the biggest difference in acceleration with auto vs. Man when you are already at highway speeds. I think auto's have a lot of slippage when they downshift when they're already going 100kph.

My friend has a Mitsu Lancer Ralliart... I can keep up - If he has his A/C on. Otherwise he always whopps me.
The 2.0 seriously lacks Torque. It takes some shifting work to keep it accelerating agressively.
