instead of 3 years free map updates,
please offer 5 years free map updates to your customers.

If they offer 5 years then something else has to give from an accountants point of view. I'd happily give up leather seats option in higher spec CX5's for 5 years free maps.

They’ve been doing 3 years for quite a while. Very doubtful they will up to 5 years just because Honda does, especially as they seen to be dropping Nav from everything except the Sig. They probably assume that everyone is going to use CarPlay/Android Auto, so there is no value in going to 5 years for them.

Dealer probably won't do it for you anyway.
Just download the Mazda toolbox app on your computer and do it yourself.
It's really easy.
Take the memory card out of the car and plug it into your computer and download the latest map version.
I just did mine last week.

Took about 15-20 minutes to download and install. I have 450mb download speed

I updated mine yesterday. Took about 2 hours over 100mb. We are upgrading to 500mb next month.

I think it might be dependent on the load at the Mazda server. I downloaded the 1st day it was available and it took about an hour. I was probably competing with many other Mazda customers. I routinely download 3-4 GB files from other servers and it only takes a 20-30 minutes.

My rural electric co-op is in the process of installing fiber internet to all of their customers...even a guy like me who they'll have to run 1/2 mile of cable to reach from the paved road. They are doing this on a substation-by-substation basis...anticipated finish date sometime in 2023. My substation will be one of the last to be done due to low subscriber density and the number of houses so far off the beaten path.

They are offering 100mb and 1gb plans. I'll be able to stream video to augment my antenna tv. I can hardly wait.

Garmin and Tom Tom only added "life time updates" to try and stay relevant. These companies days are numbered with the rise of Google Maps, Waze, Apple maps. And fyi NOT EVERY gps COMES WITH LIFETIME UPDATES. oNLY THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONES DO. oR USED TO.. i COULD BE OUT OF THE LOOP).

I'd prefer that they make the Nav system usable before caring how long the free updates last. I like it less than the 20 year old Alpine system that was in my Acura. Before Android Auto was available for my 18 GT, I had my phone mounted to the windshield so I could use Google Maps. And I have the heads up display, so it was especially disappointing how useless the Nav interface is on the Mazda. The voice functionality is comical, and there are too many non-intuitive nested steps involved in inputting a destination and getting underway. I've pretty much only used it for navigating home in rare instances.

Yeah I don't trust the Mazda Nav. It had me going in circles one time and another time I picked Home Depot and the Nav sent me to a place that had no Home Depot around. If I am going somewhere I am not familiar with I bring my Garmin gps.

Unusable meaning that it is easier to navigate somewhere without it than with it. Like I'd rather use my phone that I have with me all the time. Meaning it doesn't work in some very basic ways that are expected from an in car navigation system post 2010.

I agree, it has its functionality. Biggest gripe is that with Google Maps its easy to just say a POI and get quick results....its made it so that everyone now expects that snappiness to be integrated.

I haven't found a way to make the Mazda NAV be as friendly. If you could just say "Dunkin Donuts" and get a list it be great. But there are too many steps and you pretty much need to know the full address of a POI.
