Mazda screwing our resale value?

the 12,990 pr5 is a base 5 speed model. If you want additional equipment, just add for it. Such as moonroof and 6cd pack is 690. Add 690 to 12,990 and that's what you can buy that one for. If you want one, shoot me an e-mail or call the number I posted before and ask for Mike Miranda.

0% financing and big rebates kill your resale value...just look at a $15k 2003 cavalier's resale drop to $8k immediately when driven off the lot

Hmm... Last month I was offered a fully loaded P5 12 miles on the odo for 17,700... that's S-plan, $2000 cash back, and 0.0% APR...

Maybe it is a good thing I waited... :D

mikem, I just may give you a call. Gonna check the local dealers to see what they have

zim: your sig is FREAKIN HUGE!

i was actually expecting this.

when I bouhgt my car it was at the end of car shopping for the better part of a month and i had become extremely rude to dealers.

Then when I happened to see a p5 when looking at the POS v6 tiburon i starting talking to the usual a-hole dealer. went straight to the finance manager cause I was actually in need of buying a car within 2 weeks and wanted to cut the s***.

In the end he told me at his meetings they dont give a damn about how much he sells the pro'sand p5's for as long as he is moving good volume.

I then took my 17,5 sticker p5 home for 14,500, which was below my x-plan price.

only thing I dont have is the moonroof, didnt need it, aftermarket isnt that expensive if I do eventually want it.

03.5 so I also have no roof racks, ty, and the stock sub in the spare tire. bought it with 10 mils on it, then drove from AZ to WA 2 weeks later, now im back in AZ. =P

after all that rambling, lol, i expected this because of the he had told me about moving volume, hell on the radio here in az today i heard them selling low mileage protege lx's for 3,995 in the 98-00yr range.

I sold my '01 ES (fully loaded) for $8000 with 46K on it. The resale value sucks because there are no incentives on used cars.

I called up there and talked to Tim Cox the other day...
I like the prices, but I wasn't impressed when I was offered to trade (even swap) a 03' Protege LX (base) for my 03' B4000 Pickup that I bought from Mazda Knoxville in May with 12k miles. I've been offered far more for my trade by chevy dealers, I was pretty upset with that...

Can you do any better, or is this a dealership wide thing?

From what Tim said, the P5's are going quick.

what was the blue/black book on it?

$8500-9000 depending on if it was a private sale vs. a trade. Luckily I had a 0% apr loan, so I had positive equity in the car.

Kelly Blue Book on my car with 13k miles is $12,735

kbb is worthless. only uninformed consumers use it. dealers, banks, and other agencies have nothing to do with it. they are never close.

I look at it this way - I bought my midnight blue p5 w/sunroof and chrome wheels, manual, for $16,800 plus tax and all that other stuff. I've driven it 23,000 miles, and it's been worth every penny I still owe. Yeah, so the price has dropped by $3,500 but during that time I wouldn't have had the fun I've had so far...

Matthew, yeah, if you're selling it and you want to trade it in, it would suck with the drop in prices. I agree with the sentiment in this thread. Anything that loses value - it does hurt, but what can you do with all these incentives on new cars?

I had a '99 V6 240HP Mitsubishi Diamante w/60,000 miles on it, could have sold it for about 10 grand but then Mitsu started its don't pay anything for a new car for 5 years, 0 interest incentives and I ended up only getting $7,000 for it, and it was in good condition too... that sucked.

And buying a used car ain't worth it that much either because if you want anything decent it's still gonna cost anywhere from between $8,000 to $13,000 (i'm talking Japanese compact to midsize models), and interest rates are much higher...

At least we're not owners of Benzes and Bimmers - those owners buy new at $60,000 plus, and when they sell it's like at $30,000. that's gotta hurt...

If KBB was worthless, they would be out of business!
It is true that dealers don't use necessarily KBB ( I have seen them use it) but it is a reasonable price point for a private sale.
It is reasonable to expect to loose $3k or so (20%) in the first year, but it is unreasonable for Mazda to lower the price of a new one to less than a fair price for a lightly used one. A reasonable price for a new one should have been $14-15k minimum IMO

Anyhow, I went to see about a trade in today and they wanted to give me $9000!! (remember my car has very low miles) I put up a big stink and went to walk out the door. I finally got them to give me $10,600 which if you include the tax I would save on the new car from the trade in (you only pay tax on the difference) it was like getting $11,200, I was fairly happy with that and not having to deal with selling the car myself

I pick up the WRX Wagon tomorrow

It's been fun!

the kbb is useful for you people who sell to each other, or to pester the dealer when you try to trade in your car. if you want the good price, go to www.nada.com

im not saying that they can be close in price at times, or that the dealer can try to **** you, but trust me, they use nada. and you are happy about the price, but in reality what the dealer did was give you 9k for your trade and took 1600 off the vehicle price. so because you made a big stink, they knew the trade was important to you, and made you think you were gettting more. we always did that. also, we wouuld do it if the bank wanted a down payment and the customer didnt want to put one down, we would take money off the vehicle and show a down payment.

I realize there is no beating a dealer at there own game, it is like going to the casino. It is all about being happy with what you got. I happened to have a friend who is a Subaru dealer (at the other side of the country) and he gave me some advise. They gave me $10600 and lowered the price of the WRX $1500. I feel OK with the outcome but I am sure I still got screwed some how-dealer always wins!
