Mazda CX-5 2022 – Android Auto Error 13 due to wrong system date (year stuck at 2045)

Hi everyone,

I own a Mazda CX-5 2022 (US version) and recently ran into a strange issue with Android Auto.

Problem description

  • When I connect my Android phone, I always get Error 13 (communication error).
  • The system clock in my Mazda shows the year 2045.
  • Because of that, Android Auto refuses to connect (Google requires correct date/time for certificates).
  • Apple CarPlay works fine with an iPhone (so the USB port and cables are not the problem).
  • I tested with 3 different Android phones → same issue on all of them.

What I have tried so far

  • Tested multiple cables (including certified, data-capable ones) → no effect.
  • Performed a factory reset of the CMU → year still stuck at 2045.
  • Updated CMU firmware to the latest available version → no change, year still 2045.
  • Tried setting time via GPS sync → it always 2045.
  • In the menu, I can only adjust hours/minutes, but not the year.
  • Disconnected the battery for 30 minutes → no effect, the year remains 2045.

My suspicion

I live in Ukraine, and during Russian missile and drone attacks, electronic warfare (РЕБ) is activated in our region.
The issue appeared exactly after one such event. My suspicion is that the RTC (Real Time Clock) chip inside the CMU was damaged during the interference, which is why the system clock is stuck in 2045.

Current status

  • CarPlay → works fine.
  • Android Auto → always fails with Error 13 because of the wrong date.
  • Factory reset + firmware update + battery disconnect → did not solve the problem.

Has anyone experienced something similar?
Could this really be a failed RTC module inside the CMU?
Is there any known fix besides replacing the whole CMU unit?

If anyone has ideas on what else I could try before replacing the CMU, I’d be very grateful.

Thanks in advance!
