2007 Mazda Speed3 GT, Sunlight Silver
I'm looking into buying a 2007 speed3 and I have noticed that very few dealers that have used speed3's are mazda certified pre-owned vehicles. The warranty that comes with them is phenomenal which is why I'm concerned that not more dealers are offering this. Does anyone know the reason for these limited numbers? I would love to get a certified one but it seems like they are rare.

^agreed, I'd love to find a CPO mspd3, save money plus a longer warrenty. (as long as the car was low milage).

Knowing that by definition these cars get thrashed on a regular basis, would you give them an extended warranty?

I have extended warranty on my brand new mazdaspeed

Congrats, but we are talking used. I have seen this with the STI, as well as the EVO and the Srt-4. When I was looking into the STI in 2004, they had one leftover 04 left and one preowned. It was not certified preowned, even though the miles were low, but pretty much every newer Subaru there was.

It definitely isn 't easy finding a certified preowned car that's purchased by enthusiasts, perhaps mildly modded, and them knowing the potential cost, so it makes sense why it can be difficult to find a CPO Speed 3. It's just in a different category when it's resold as opposed to regular daily driver cars. No one really buys a regular Mazda 3, and thrashes it, but many owners of these cars like the EVO STI, Speed 3, ect do in fact beat on tghem pretty hard if they trade them in in that short of a time frame.

Personally, I'd be weery of a used Speed 3, or an STI or an EVO, ect ect Perhaps you can try and negotiate on a new one. I know they sell for 500 below invoice here. :)

this is exactly why I'm so worried about buying a used subie. People don't get this kind of car to get from A to B.....they get it to get from A to B as fast as possible. If I knew I was going to be giving up a subie....or MS3 in this case....to a dealer I'd definitely take it out on some "spirited" drives that I wouldn't normally do since I'd be getting rid of the car soon anyway. It's just the risk you take that a dealer isn't willing to.

Yeah, I can relate. I beat the SNOT out of my STI before I traded it in on a VERY spirited drive, and to be honest I drove the thing damn hard during my 2+ years and 30k miles I owned it, because I knew ahead of time I wasn't keeping it past the bumper to bumper warranty. I also pounded on my RX8 before I sold it. My 01 S2000, yep same thing. That's just how it is. These cars are risky buying used, but it doesn't necessarily mean the car has been mistreated, so it's merely my judgement to avoid ANY used car like these.

One other thing that deters me. If the car is selling used, there's also the possibility that several came to test drive it, and the salesman and people that work at dealership themselves took it out for a few joy rides. I know for a fact the salesman at the Mazda dealership joy rided my car. When it got placed on autotrader, it had 150 more miles on it then when I traded it in. SOmeone was having fun before putting it up for sale. ;)

Dodge for certain would never extend it out on their srt products. Heck they don't trust their own car much since they only offer 3/36 on their SRT lineup to begin with. Wonder why that is? This was one of the major reasons I said forget it to the dodge dealer when I test drove the srt-4 and a used srt-6.

You are starting to see srt-6 cars everywhere now, I think that's cause it's mostly benz under that fancy sheetmetal, and they are no longer sweet talking with the chrysler boys since the sale.

I'm going to look at a used one later this week that has 7k miles on it. Is there a way I can tell if it's been driven hard? Or should I just make sure it has an extended warranty.

why would you get a certified car when you plan on modifying it? they're going to give you crap. unless... please don't say you're going to leave it stock!
