Just purchased an 07 Mazda 5, Love it.

Thanks

It swich off by it self if the passenger is not heavy enough, you will see a light goes on when it's deactived.

Yeah. When not illuminated on the lower left hand side of the passenger dash, it's a black plastic box about 1" x 1". If you go out to your car, turn the ignition to on, sit in the driver's seat, and just lean over and put a little pressure on the seat with your hand, it'll light up pinkish orange and say passenger airbag off. I believe the magic number is 66 lbs... when there's more that that amount in the seat, the airbag is turned ON.

And by the way... WELCOME :D

EDIT: See page 2-47 of the 2007 Owners Manual.

It's gotta be less that 66#. Because that damned beeper will go off when I have a two cases (of Diet Dr. Pepper of course) sitting on the seat.

Thanks guys..BTW..does this mean that:

- the airbag is activated with the passenger seat empty ?
- De activated with a passenger between 1 and 66lbs ?

again thanks, and sorry for the dumb questions

jeff

It will not deploy if the passenger seat is 66lbs or less... including 0 lbs.

Straight from the Onwers Manual...

Thanks..could not be clearer than that
I was just confused as the light never came on, with no pass.

You guys are awesome

love my 5

Yep, it'll come on for a few seconds for it's normal diagnostics mode at ignition, then it'll go bye bye until you get 1-66lbs in that seat. Good idea because it'd be annoying to have that light on 24/7 for an empty seat, but a good reminder for when you do have a small child riding shotgun.

No problem... this site's a great resource. I've learned a lot myself here. Zoom-Zoom!

The beeping isn't for the airbags, that's just to tell you to put the seat belt on your soda.

Dealer can deactivate that for you.

the _Saint: The best and safest place to carry your soda is on the floor in front of the passenger seat or behind the driver's seat on the floor. The reason is in an accident those cans or bottles will go flying up through the windshield and some will bounce back and cause serious injuries. I carry soda behind the driver's seat, but I have a sedan so it's a snug fit on the floor. Move the middle seat forward to hold the bottles firmly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is enough cup holders in the 5 to hold you precious cargo of diet Dr. Pepper. However you'll be limited to 3 1/2 twelve packs. I swear every time I turn around the damn thing sprouts another cup holder. Its like they procreate at night or something.

rofl! That as an odd visual.

Sometimes pop goes on the seat, sometimes it goes on the floor, it just depends on how much groceries I have. I don't like opening the sliders if I don't have to...for fear that they won't close again.

Anyways, I'm a tard, that beeper is for the seatbelt not the airbag.

I had a nice long drive towards the end of october when I picked up a couple of pumpkins on the way home. The car was full, so I put them on the front seat and they rode up there with me. The light came on to tell me that the airbag was off but even driving for the next 30 minutes or so the beeper never came on. So I think that not all 5's are shipping with that annoying beeper turned on by default now. Or my dealership turned it off before they sold the car, I certainly never had to ask them to do that.
