Hi guys!! i have a 2004 mazdaq 3i 2.0 with about 105k miles and i think it's time for a minor tune up. I was looking to change sparkplugs, battery and the air filter. Any suggestions for sparkplugs and batteries? THe air filter i can get from the dealer but i am wondering if there are any better alternatives to air filters?

thanks a lot

Dealership OEM spark plugs would be just fine for you car. considering its going to be what you originally had in your car. As for filters K&N air filters are a great way to let your engine breathe much better. I have a full K&N cold air , which gives like 8 to 12 hp gain , just the filter its self would probably give 3 or 4. The K&N filter will be a lil bit more expensive ( usually ) but you only have to clean it every 2 yrs maybe less if you live down a dusty road. And its a Lifetime warranty.

nice!! i just bought my K&N filter. quite pricey though, 46 bucks!! but i guess it worth it.
I donno whther or not i will feel the extra 3/4 hp but as long as the car breathes well, ill be happy : ) although 4 hp should make some difference on such a 148 hp engine.

If you're handy, do it yourself. I'd reccomend doing a good seafoam job before you change the plugs and oil... clean out that engine as well as you can. Also switch over to synthetic if you haven't already.

A hi flow oil filer is a nice touch to go a long with synthetic oil. Also switch the trans fluid or gear oil to a synthetic.

yea ive been using regular oil. so my oil change is always 25 bucks... how much does it run for synthetic oil change? and does it really make a difference performance wise?
Yea i've been bad to my car at 105k im doing my first tune up.... changing a battery, sparkplugs, and an airfilter ( What else do u guys think i should do?). but i drove a rental mazda 3 2009, and i was surprised that my 04 mazda 3 euns exactly the same, performance hasn't gone done over 5 years. the reason performance is still up cause i changed shiittt load of parts on the car... 2 motor mounts, two fuel pumps, intake manifold, throttle.... thank god there is such a thing called extended warranty : )
