Mazda 3 power steering recall

fudge...

Well fudge - Does anybody know if the 'watch' list of VINs that came out in 2009 is the same as the recall list? If so, I'm on it... Never had any problems, love my little silver 3 5dr sport.

s***, looks like my car falls within the list. Calling dealership tomorrow, luckily i know the service tech at 2 Mazda dealerships.

Yeah. Went to the dealership yesterday about it.
They couldn't do anything until they get information I guess from Mazda.

They aren't taking any repairs until owners have the notification from Mazda. And Mazda isn't going to start mailing the notifications until September 15th. They don't expect to be done until February 2011.

I called the dealer closest to me (60 miles away) and they said they don't have the required parts from Mazda and they can't do anything unless I actually have a problem right now...which I don't.

But, waiting and worrying that the steering will go out every damn time I drive the car is no fun. I'm less than happy with it and Mazda U.S.A. right now.

i called my dealership and they confirmed all of this.

no parts available, and can't do anything until mazda contacts you.

it has been around 2 weeks now. i just really hope it doesnt go out on my wife, since she drives the 5. so far, i havent experienced it, but a lot of other 5 owners have. mine falls right in the middle of the recall.

Same with my 3 and I. It's right smack dab in the middle of the recalled build date cars, but I haven't had any troubles...yet. (unamused)

I figured they'd be WAY eager to fix this as soon as possible, especially since every car recall ever is scrutinized heavily now that Toyota had their embarrassment.

I'm on the recall list.

My power steering went out back in May and when I went to go get it fixed at the dealership, they didn't do anything for me. They said it "didn't happen" and they couldn't work on it because the chip didn't say anything about it going out. So yay, I have to wait for it to happen again until I can go and get it fixed. Ridiculous.

I bought my first Mazda3 back in the start of August and when I went to get in it to drive it home from the dealership the power steering that was there when I test drove it was no longer there. I could barely get out of the parking lot...not to say I'm a weakling lol but I drove it over to the service department and they had it fixed in 2 days..no cost of course and I got to drive a 2010 for the time it was in the shop. I was worried but I'm glad that I bough tit I love it. The service manager told me that it was becoming acommon problem and the warm weather for what ever reason seemed to make it more common. It was 103 degrees that day. Just my thoughts and what I was told.

finally got my letter from mazda.

however, the parts are still unavailable so they say to wait for a second letter when parts are available. my wife is starting to get mad because to here it is like a ticking timebomb with the baby in the car. i must agree. starting to get annoyed with mazda on this one.

I have a 3 and a 5, got both letters for each yesterday. Dont get annoyed. Its not a ticking time bomb, its mostly a just in case repair. Its a very small chance that the POWER steering could go out, it will still steer, and if youre on the highway you will barely notice it if it does go out, only at low speed is it going to take you some arm to turn it if it goes out. Basically the supplier has to make a bujillion more units so it takes time to get parts for it. Relax unless yours has stopped steering, then youd qualify to get one early since they will fix the high priority cases 1st. I had to drive a metro back in 2001 to the rental shop and it didnt even come with power steering, so you will live. ;-)

i am fine. i have known about it before the recall. there have been quite a few 5s with this problem. ours have not had problems... yet. however, my wife drives it in traffic a lot with the baby, so she is getting frustrated. if it wasnt for the government asking, they probably wouldnt have done anything, even though they know about the problem and fixed them in japan already.

Got mail from Rick Case earlier today about the recall.
Looks like the dealers got the parts and whatever else was needed for the recall.

I got my letter the other day. It told me to wait for the second letter before scheduling a repair appointment.

I'll be happy to let them replace mine when I get the second letter on the 3 and my 5...new parts free hell yeah!

However, I autocross my 3, no problems whatsoever...lets not be paranoid...you should be more paranoid of a tire blowout at highway speed than a POWER steering (not steering) failure.
