Maybe Mazda isn't so crazy after all introducing diesel in US post-VW scandal

Over here the 2.5L still outsells the diesel on account of it being ~ $3000 cheaper and that the diesel really comes into it's own if you are towing or doing long distance travel.
 
I am curious to test drive one though. Heck... the torque is only 19 ft/lbs (25.76 Nm) less than the V8 in my GX which is moving around 5300 lbs (2404 kg) of curb weight

Torque is available pretty much from the get go and peak is at 2000rpm. Max power ends at 4500rpm
