MAF unplug helped idle?

Hey everyone, its been a while since my last post...

I have the rough idle symptoms. The usual..

2000 LX 1.8

-New Canadian EGR
-New plugs/wires
-No leaks

I was running out of ideas until I took the air intake tube off to get a better look for leaks and the car ran fine with the tube off. The Mass airflow sensor was disconnected and so was the intake temp sensor.

So I installed the intake tube back on and plugged only the intake sensor in.

Car idled PERFECT! WTF? plugged the MAF in and rough idle immediately.

I am assuming the MAF needs to be cleaned and thats all? I was thinking of just leaving it unplugged! haha..

Any ideas?

Leaving the MAF unplugged will cause the ECU to default to parameters that will produce less power and higher fuel consumption. Do you have a CEL displayed while the MAF is unplugged? When I had a bad MAF in place, the CEL displayed, and at the very least, the spark advanced locked into 10 degrees.

First, try cleaning! Lots of places here with procedures.

It shocked me too.... No codes.. no check engine light.. Mind you I didn't drive it at all. I revved it up a bit a few times.. It boggles me.. I just cleaned it and waiting for it to dry so I will update!

Just give it plenty of time to dry! Wet elecronic parts fry!!! I put it in direct sunlight for about 30 minutes. Good luck.

MAF is all dried up..got everything going and still no luck... Instead of goofing around, I just turned the stop screw on the throttle body so I idle at 980rpm ish... Problem solved.

I was sick of changing things.. The car runs fine now..

The MAF is unplugged and no CELs?

Do you have a way of monitoring the spark advance while driving? I am curious if the ECU has gone into a safe mode.

Maf is a "high priority sensor". This means that the ecu/PCM gets most of it's fuel mapping data from the maf. If the maf is deffedtive or unplugged the car will default to the next highest priority sensor. Which is the throttle position sensor. Sounds like you need a new maf.
