Well I was just sitting with my mother and sister discussing birthday present ideas. And well my laptop that I got to use for college is a PIECE OF s***. Basically I all these issues with it. It randomly freezes, overheats, freezes some more. And I suggested a new computer. My mom thought about it and said maybe. Then I said, how about money to build my own computer? And my sister was there and suggested a Mac. Now I sit here and contemplate Mac or PC. Basically I use the computer to do work every now and then, chat online, check the boards, surf the internet, and an occasional World Of Warcraft. So I am thinking of making the switch. I dislike laptops because this one turned out to be a POS. Damn dell, yes I know they are cheap but its what i was given. Anyways, I am thinking about a Mini Mac. Saves space, good power, and useable in many places. We have a 19 in lcd monitor sitting around at my house on my desk, only thing would be a keyboard and mouse which I would get apple wireless. I am really considering making the change but I dont know. I need help/suggestions so please let me know.
 
a mini mac will be slow for WoW but a powerbook or G5 tower would be awesome. Anything but Windows I say... :)
 
Well I am thinking of making the shift because I am simply tired of PC related bulls*** at times. I have always been a PC user, but idk anymore. I just need some info I guess. G5 towers are huge arent they?
 
Ehhh Macs are just waaaaay too expensive IMO. I just went Computer shopping, and for the money I just wasn't impressed. I like the idea of being able to have SOFTWARE for my computer...instead of two racks of applications and games from 2 years ago. I'd say unless you ONLY use your comp for productivity, get a PC. Plus, I think the stability of Macs is super overrated. My best friend is a Mac fanboy junkie, and his G5 has glitched and crashed right in front of me several times. Soon MACs are switching to Intel processors too, so I heard they may be cheaper, but I doubt it.
 
i switched to macs about 5 years ago. yes, they're more expensive. but they work. sure a program will crash every now and then, but the os has crashed only a handful of times. and no, i'm not lazy because i don't want to piece together a pc system for 1/2 the price and 5 gajillion times more processing power. my 5 year old powermac performs perfectly to this day running final cut pro, photoshop, or anything else i've thrown at it. the switch to intel chips is interesting, but that's not for another year and a half.
 
If you can wait, I'd wait for the Intel version of Mac which I believe will debut spring time of 06' (I think). I think I'll switch to Mac as well when that is release. Supposely will be alot faster, and since it's x86 based, hopefully more software vendor will come out with more software for Mac.

Nonetheless, if you aren't into heavy gaming, I say go with Mac. Everything you listed can be done on Mac and it would be alot more reliable than PC IMO. :)
 
Well I am leaning towards an G5, but my question is would I be able to hook up my regular pc friendly 19 in lcd to the G5? and also would the G5 be able to handle some games well? I am not a hardcore PC gamer but i want it to play World of Warcraft.
 
If I bought a Mac, in order to use a program for for work I would have had to purchase Virtual PC...which costs like $250. So If a Mac could easily simulate a PC in anyway I can see how that could have it's uses. But I heard VirPC is unstable for big programs.

Since macs run a unix variant I ran wine on mine (http://www.winehq.com/) which will probably be able to handle your apps. It's free, but it doesn't offer the accessible desktop-inside-a-desktop feel of virtualpc
 
Actually, the more i think about it x86 based mac is highly interesting to me...

seems like a wickedly smart idea for the Apple dudes....you get to keep the brand loyalty of the mac users, but also knock down a compatibility wall..., good move imho.
