lowering a car where it snows

well hope some of you guys from the winter wonderland like Canada, or Northern US could just say a few thinks about lowering ur p5. I am seriously thinking about going with the goldlines. it looks real nice and i know i would benefit from the added performance and looks. I live here in chicago and go to school up in michigan. So i see my fair share of snow. just wondering how much a drop is gonna influence my driving during the winter. its not like im have to go out driving when there is a few feet of snow on the ground, but i mean normal winter driving. i also drive out to Colo to go skiing during the winter. thanx

what do you mean by "influence"? my car has been lowered the last two winters and i haven't had any problems with it drivability wise.

i just bought and installed the tein s-type springs on my car, but i was asked several times if i was gonna switch out to my stock springs for the winter. first, i think switching back and forth is a waste of time. second, sure illinois winters can be brutal, but i'm just gonna have to deal with the concequences of having them on. i've been stuck before without having springs on and i'm sure i'll get stuck again.

You're going to be riding on a 1.5" to 2.0" max (not sure how much the Goldlines drop). You're not going to be lowriding.

You shouldn't worry about the drop.

Get some steelies and snow tires for the winter if you're concerned about not getting thru. anything...

Ive had a lowered 1st gen and now my 3rd gen which is also lowered ,no problems in the snow or slush . I find it better with the lower center of gravity . I have lots of fun in the deep stuff ,great for sliding the car . With the set up I have now I can slide the rear out and drift the car around the corners with an opposite twitch of the steering wheel .
Yes the car does snow plao a bit with the deep snow but i have never gotten stuck ,i've had to back up and try again ,but never stuck . I say go for it and have fun in the snow .

I drove lowered on 18s with the MintBlue kit last winter in the snow ... ice chunks sux, but there was no damage. If you dont have a kit or lip you wont have ANY problems.

sounds good, thanx

winter means get winter tires. the reason people get stuck in the snow is because they aren't properly equipped with winter tires. over 80% of people in the province of Quebec use winter tires, mainly because their winters are definitely snowier and longer.

in toronto, the snow can get pretty bad, but winter tires are definitely a must. the stock dunlops are s***, even brand new, in the white stuff. they don't channel enough snow and slush out to be effective during the winter seasons.

i've had my ride lowered for the past two winters (upcoming third winter) and i've had no problems. will the front plow snow? yeah, probably a little, but not enough to damage your car.

You'll be fine. Proof...

winter is the only reason i havent lowered my car. i know i have will have to remove my lip in the winter so lowering with a lip would cause some serious problems. not to mention i would never, ever make it in or out or kens driveway in peace ;)

yeah you'd be pwned by Ken's driveway. Worse would be if ur lip got caught AND ur tires got stuck in the little valley between road and driveway. Even with the header of the gods you couldn't get out.

Winter for me was a mixture of things. First, I was completely unprepared for the sliding (I've driven big, heavy cars all my life this is the first samll/light). After the shock wore off, I kinda like it, kinda hate it. This winter I'm looking at putting some sandbags in the rear seat floors to help add some much-needed rear weight.

Snow tires are also a possibility but I am on a tight budget so I may opt for trying my luck!

Like posted above, I think the only things you'll have to worry about are chunks of ice and sliding into a curb. And it's not going to make too much difference between 2 feet of snow on the road and 3 feet. I'd stay off of both if I had the option...

Snow tires make all the difference, I had them mounted on my stock 15s and barely had problems. As long as you are careful you'll be fine. I have the Eibach pro kit, no issues at all.

i have gone through 2 winters on the stock tires and have had no problems. i dont see why so many people have trouble. its simple, when it snows you have to be careful. i guess some people need to drive like a maniac all the time.

i have stock tires and i would drop it year round if i didn't have the lip, i've never been the first out after a snow storm. let some other vehicles lay down the path then its all good.

i would like winter tires however to feel the difference you all talk about, im just used to snow driving and its kind of fun.
