Ok, so im going to remove my spare tire...im gonna also remove the lining on the underside of the hood...this wouldnt damage anything really would it? what else have you guys removed in order to lose weight (just curious to see everyones ideas!)...im not interested in taking out my seats or anything, just wanna see what others have done.

ok ill see what i can do, and see if i can pay some indonesians to push my car instead of driving it...better than working in kathy lees sweatshop i suppose

Change the hood to carbon fiber and change the wheels to lightweight wheels. They are helpful but pricy.

Remove the black strips along the roof that the roof rack bolts on to. (if yours came with it). After taking mine off I noticed the weight loss in driving it. I forget how much they weighed though, but it helps.

I removed the spare tire, backseats,(no more woopie 4 me), and the sound tar under the carpet (that was a pain in the ass). Oh yeah I started doing more cardio. That helped the most.

DO NOT remove the lining under your hood. It's a heat sheild meant to protect the paint on the hood from bubbling, etc over time. Besides, it weighs like 3lbs. If you want to reduce weight, get a fiberglass hood/body kit/panels, some Rota Subzeros, fiberglass center console, titanium exhaust, etc.

Try the Atkins Diet...it worked for me! Lost 50+ lbs of weight taht was slowing my car down! You can probably get lighter rims and go with smaller tires, too. Other than that I think everybody's already taken the good ones.

Slimfast, - I've lost 40 pounds since April 1st. I'm 5'9", and went from 200 lbs to 160 lbs.

You could also pull out your front seats and just install a single Aluminum racers seat for yourself. Dash has alot of plastic too, you could pull all that out. Windows have some weight, you might want to take them out, strip off your door panels while you are at it too.

Depends how committed you are, I guess.

You have pics of this? I may be interested in taking them off. Are they easy to put back on if you want? Hrmmmm....

I read an article in Sport Compact Car where they kind of made a joke about removing weight from a car. I think it was like a 95 accord. They took off all the body panels, seats, etc. All that was left was the moving parts. Ran like a 13.8 or something if I remember correctly. Give that a shot and let us know.:D

Do you really think it's worth it taking out all that stuff? The gain's are so small 1/10th of a sec for every 100 lbs. I striped out my whole ass end of my protege just for s***'s are giggles and took it to time trails, with my intake, exhaust, short shifter, and minus all that weight I took out, i still only ran a 17.1. For the tiny ass gain's I got, i think i'll just let the performance suffer a little, and have a complete interior. IMO, if you want to weight reduction, CF hood, lightweight wheels, leave the stripped interior's for full on race cars.

Hey I was thinking of ways of weight loss and when I get a job, I am thinking of looking into lighter retractable seats that are also surounding for more support. Does anyone know of lightweight retractable seats. I know when I used to take my passanger seat out my probe for wirng, it used to feel alot faster and better response without just the passanger seat. I used to be suprised at the difference it made. since I dont want to get rid om my seats I tought about lighter ones with more support and retractable creature comfort.

Any directions of what kind, weight, and wheir to get info on it.

yeah...definitely not worth it to remove the heat shielding from the hood unless you want your car to look like a POS eventually...my brother's hood looks like complete crap, even though he never removed the shielding...the honda shielding was jsut crap...

Since we are on the eventually statements. Eventually the oils under your car are going to deteriate that fire protection nad it is going to help dirty your engine. Not that I am condonig removing it. Also it isnt heat shielding but fire shielding. If something catches on fire the plastic pieces holing it in burn up and it collapse holding the fire in or putting it out. Two it also helps keep noise out. If you ever want to put on scoops to cool of your in take and help give the engine some cool air you will have to remove it. Also cleaning the bottom of the hood is easier then cleaning the engine

I wouldnt reccoment just temprarily removing it. Its kind of a long process that could wear down parts in your car from frequent removal and installation. I made a how-to a while ago:

I guess if your anal about removing weight, a lot of the interior parts come out while removing these pieces anyways so thats a plus. I wouldnt do it every race day or whatever, I just did it once and for looks.

One of the requirements for going to the track was to remove or secure things that would otherwise get thrown around, so I removed the:

- spare tire + jack
- rear "shelf"
- rear spare tire cover/board
- floor mats
- all except driver's headrest
- visors
- stuff in the glovebox and center console

I also clipped in the rear and passenger side seatbelts. Looks dumb but at least nothing get's thrown around. I actually keep the belts clipped in still!

Next I would like to learn to remove the cruise control system.

The spare tire and hood lining are REALLY not going to help you out. To really cut weight? Pull the door panels off...then cut out the doors. Then put the panels back on! :D
