I was piddling with my MSP today and had the Heat shield off. I got to looking at it and noticed burn marks on the inside right corner(would be the left instll'd).
I remember a co-worker tellin me one day that it sounded like i had exhaust leak.
Well he was right. I took a socket wrench and turned the upper left bolt, it was loose. So then i go to put it on the lower one, and.... Its not there!!!!

I got the car used about 8 months ago. Does anybody have any Idea how it could have happened? Would it be uncommon for it to come loose over time? Who knows what the owner before me did to the poor thing.

leaky/cracked manifolds are common, usually the bolts holding the heatshield on pop out over time, i've had about 3 disappear on me, but never the manifold bolt. They just loosen over time from the vibration and eventually fall out.

Its very common for the exhaust manifolds to loosen up as the both time and miles go by. Just get the right metric nut and a lock washer and replace the missing one. Check them periodically and retighten as needed.

yeah man, when i did my s-pipe i took the manifold off and ALL the bolts were hand tight. freaked me out.
after that i checked them every oil change.

atp sells locking nuts that should hold a lot longer

only downside is that you'll need new studs if you take them off

Yeah man I know the feeling. Just without the s-pipe.

when i put my ghl on, all of my manifold bolts were loose! and my mani was cracked and so was the mounting bracket bolted to the J pipe
