Loose Back End

I developped this problem about a month ago but it is tough to recreate. When driving down the road and making a 'quicker' lane change, it feels as if the back end is wishy-washy. Basically floating side-to-side. As you continue to drive, it goes away as quickly as it came.

It has happenned to me about 4 times in the past few month.

On another note, not sure if they are related. When I make a left hand turn, the rear wheel on the passenger side goes thump, thump thump. As you straighten out, the thumping goes away. I think it could be an allignment issue but it only happens at low speed and when turning.

Anyone else have something similar happen to them?

I've never experienced this problem myself, but it sounds like it could be a defective rear shock....

Yeah we had this happen a few times on the freeway when we were up north on highway 5 over the summer. We assumed it was because we were in just the "right" position behind a semi and we were getting buffeted by its slipstream. Haven't noticed it since, though my wife usually drives the car.

why do I suspect wheel bearings?

could be some sort of loose linkage or bad bushing, loose lugnut, maybe bearings but you tend to get wobble when going straight too. Try zig zagging in a parking lot at low speed and on a back road at 50mph see if that helps narrow it down any.

Start with the simple stuff. Check the tire pressures. Low profile tires can be low on air but look fine. Then check your lug nuts. I am suspecting low pressure and loose lug nuts on the RR.

Has the car had the suspension bushings replaced? Perhaps something came loose.

higher profile tires are more prone to this... stabilizer bars is what shud b elliminating this.

50 series is very low and MZ5 come standard with f/r sway bars.

check the tire pressure. If mine falls so much as a psi the back doesn't feel like it tracks as well as it should. Correct tire pressure and that thing turns like a sports car. (lol2)

my wife had loose back end but a bit of jogging fixed that... hope this helps
