I have considered the new Apple iPod Mini for $249.00, with a 4gb hdd. But; I don't really need to store 1,000 songs.

The Rio Nitrus is nice with a 1.5gb drive, and I noticed a Creative Labs 128 MB NOMAD IIc.

What are your thoughts? Thanks!

get at least a 1gig player........the larger memory players are so cheap now that there's really no reason to go small. It'll also allow you to encode your MP3's at a higher bitrate for better quality. I have the RCA Lyra Jukebox 40gig.......$299 at Circuit City. It's kinda big for my taste but the memory and price was right.....plus you can back up your computer HD on it in a pinch....I've done it twice now. I'd go for the Apple thingie myself.......they are sickeningly overpriced but definitely the best as far as size and ease of use......

I have a creative nomad 256 and I love it. It is the size of a cig. lighter its so small, which is perfect because I got it to take to the gym for when I work out.

Bonus feature is that it plugs directly into your usb port. SO if you wanted to you could use it as a portable hard drive (a very small one).

I love mine and highly recomend it.

i've got the 10 gb ipod. i hear you can get those for $250 (even cheaper with a student/educators discount) since the 15gb came out. even though you don't need to store 1000 songs, it's always nice to have. it's also nice having some extra room for transferring files. that alone has made it a must have for me at work.

What are you going to use it for?

The hd players are great but they are heavy and not good for working out, running, biking etc.

The flash-rom players don't hold very many songs but they are small, lightweight, and don't eat through batteries as fast.

I bought my sister a Rio Sonicblue S35S for Christmas. She wanted something for her semester abroad in Italy. Italy has alot of pick-pocketers so I didn't want to get her something like an ipod that would get stolen. The S35S also has a built-in tuner so she can listen to the radio. It only takes about 3-5 minutes to load songs onto it in the morning and she can fit several CDs worth of music on it.

That's pretty nice! How many songs can you typically store?

I am thinking I really need 1.5gb of storage, so I can hold over 300 songs.

well lets see I have about 75 songs on it right now, and it is about 80% full. I don't need a ton of space because I use it only for working out, and running, biking and when I go kyaking.

It would be nice to have a ton of space, but frankly I don't have 1000 or even 300 MP3's in my collection. I keep my favorites and the ones that motivate me while I work out and this little player is perfect.

NO DO NOT GET AN MP3 PLAYER.. get an MD player.. trust me.. i got a 128 + 128 MB mp3 player at first but scraped it for a sony MZN610 MD player.. so much better.. can hold like 5 times the songs for a of the price...

you can fit 320mins on an 80min MiniDisc, thats like almost 75 songs on a $3 disc, and its rewritable (can delete and write songs individually) you do not need to reimage the disc like a CDR

if you need to to have mass storage of songs get an mp3/atrac player from song, encode all your mp3s as atrac and you can hold like almost 500 songs on 1 CDR

I had an MD player but ditched it......it's dead technology. You've got to actually "record" your mp3's onto a MD and use some proprietary software to do it. Plus you still have the skipping issue like with portable CD players. With 40gig HD based mp3 players as low as $249 it doesn't make sense to any other way.

I have both..I have a 20GB Ipod and I have a sony MD..MD's are pretty much only useful if your doing off the cuff recording or constantly needing to keep X amount of songs as your mix..(which means you smoke crack) the MP3 players are a far better buy. The Ipods being the way to go..AGR..get yourself an IPOD..you won't regret it.

Going with the Mini iPod, I do believe. 1,000 song storage will do nicely.

Wrong color for me, but you get the idea.

Better.....

ive had the creative juke box 3 with the 20 gig hard drive...this thing is awsome...it can record music as well...i also highly recomend getting the fm remote too

I have an older Nomad Jukebox 2. I replaced the HD and it now holds 20 gigs. More than my Computer!!! :D

I bought mine before Ipods were as popular and supported as they are now. Putting mine side by side with a Ipod I think it holds its own though. Nomad offers lots of firmware and driver updates. They weren't BS updates either, good stuff! Mine has more space than most, good menu systems and some neat features. The only downsides are its size(a little smaller than a portable CD player) and battery life (about 4 hours).

I believe there is a newer smaller jukebox out now.

whats the mini ipod... I want

its the mp3 player made by apple. I think you have to run iTunes to import/export files with it. but thats no big deal, you can get iTunes for Windows. I love it, better than winamp IMO

jeeze these look interesting...it'd be nice to hold all of my songs on one lil' mp3 player. fackin' gay ass 9 gb of songs. IT SUCKS TO DEFRAG with 900 songs. anyone know of a good partitioner that i can use without having to reformat my hard drive ?
