Looking for a new car.

My wife and I just bought a 08 Legacy wagon back in May. At the time we knew she was pregnant but didn't know with twins. We now find that the Legacy doesn't have enough room for the 2 girls and car seats and our 12 year old doughter + all the crap you have to pack when you have new babies. We are now going to be looking for a mini van. I'm looking for some opinions on some mini vans.

Can't really go wrong with the Odyssey or the Sienna. Although the new VW Routan looks very nice - even though it's based off the Dodge Caravan platfiorm.

check out the recent car & driver project vehicle.

Mazda 5, with mazdaspeed 3 running gear :)

You have 3 daughters? I think you need more than a new car, something like a couple of nannys and a couple hundred bodyguards/spies/guard dogs.

I agree -- when our rugrats were all home, a Mercury Villager (Nissan Quest) was our "people hauler". Just on "principles", I'd avoid the Routan. Odds are it'll be just a more expensive Chrysler Town & Country. The Toyota and Honda offerings are expensive, but very likely worth the cost.

why is this posted in the mazdaspeed3 section again?

Cos the man drives a speed3 and wants our opinion.

Mazda got the best looking minivan by miles although i dont think a mini van should be purchased on looks alone, that would defy the whole point of getting one. We have a cx-7 but just one baby, i dont think it could handle 3 kids.

I would purchase a Odyssey or the Sienna as suggested above. Those are very reliable vans from reliable Japanese companies.

people all over are having babies just to get the new VW Routan. lol. I can get you a great deal on one, if your in S. Florida.

Coming from a car snob like me it will sound crazy.....Hyundai Entourage. /thread.

Trust me, We had two Hondas and I thought they were the best. We picked up a 4mo old program SE trim for nearly $8k below sticker. $19,400 with 4,000 miles on it. Loaded and amazingly nice.

We've had it one year now and have had zero issues. Drive a new Oddy to and this side by side and tell me if you see the price delta. I doubt you will. The only thing going for Honda...at the time...was resale. In our case, we plan on keeping it for a while and I opted for my savings today vs 7-8-9 years from now.

Snipped from my contributions on "the other Mazda board" regarding a similar topic:

Show me $9,600 betterment over the Entourage and I'd be surprised. Are there better vans? Sure, the Toyota is the king, but the price delta for a ******* van.....stupid as the people who pay the difference IMO. They didn't build them with every single amenity as the competition for a reason...not everyone wants a $38k-$44k minivan. I loved how the Honda guy said the Oddy would hold it's value longer....I know....and I agree...my Accord sold for great money...but I'll take my $9,600 now thank you very much....especially in todays market.

What most folks do want is a powerful van, with great mpgs with top safety ratings, with plenty of features and backed by great build and the strongest warranty around. It's called value. I don't need a minivan that corners harshly...I want my kids to ride in a plush vehicle, not one that resonates the bumps inside. I like having a manu-matic shifter on a tranny that is buttery smooth. Now I can hold the gears on my own as I merge or pass vs an abrupt or in some cases a lazy down-shift like the others offer.

Power...on par HP and Torque wise 250hp/253lbs., mpgs right in line with Honda....16/23mpg.... Safety...highest ranking of ALL minivans made...even the new Chrysler didn't score as well; features....The Hyundai has 6 disc infinity sound system with subwoofer...and it's sweat sounding, DVD Video for the the kids, backup system, power doors & lift-gate, tri-zone HVAC, 17" Alloys, adjustable foot pedals, power seats with memory, bluetooth phone, projector beams headlamps & projector fogs too. Warranty....hmmm...I wonder why Chrysler and GM had to upgrade their previous 3/36k to what the Koreans were game enough to offer out of the gate 10/100k. Hell, Honda doesn't even offer a roadside assistance should my wife get a flat. Hyundai backs our van with a 5yr plan, strongest around....but hey, with Honda, they do have a very nice Navi...I had one in my Accord and loved it....but that was 5yrs ago......it's 2008 and excellent portable navi units abound for mere hundreds of dollars...who the hell is stupid enough to pay $2k for one built in anymore?

BTW, Kia and Hyundai are pretty much exactly the same vehicles. They are built on the same exact assembly lines just during different manufacturing times. Trim levels are a little different with Kia being the lower level. Similar to GMC vs Chevy. Otherwise, they are the same.

Thanks for all the input. Yes 3 girls and 1 is 12 so she's already starting to hang out with boys. One of the things I'm looking forward too is scaring the s*** out of there boy friends :). We lookad at the Mazda 5 and I just don't think there is enough room for everything. With the 3rd row seats up there is no cargo space at all.

Ford Flex! It has gobs of room, especially in the second row (easy to work with the twins and their car seats), class leading fuel economy (24 hwy) and exceptional safety ratings. It's built in Canada alongside the Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX which have outstanding quality ratings.

I bought a honda odysee back in 99 and still have it. Lots of room runs great and plenty of powa. I have 100,000 miles on it now and the thing looks great when you run it thru the car wash. Plus I cant tell you how much stuff you can get in the back with the seats down. I dont want to ever sell that thing because it paid for and thats the best car to have of all.

I got the stripped down model without all the gizmos and waited 8 months for it when they first came out. Its like having a pickup with an enclosed bed. Hell I even went to loews and bought a cub cadet riding lawn tractor and put it right in the back and cloesed the door.
