Looking for a 10.7:1 piston

Not bad at all, still driving the car until I can get my winter beater issue sorted out (long story, don't get me started). Still cold over there as well, despite a thaw that just started.
I was in Calgary for an hour or so yesterday on my way to BC :)

Froze your ass off then! You should have gave me a call, I'd have you over to check out the build! Are you coming back through anytime?

Never left the airport (nor would I have had the time). Our flight back doesn't go through Calgary. Would have loved to see the car otherwise :(

I work at the airport so I probably would have been able to meet you anyway haha. What airline did you fly? I'm guessing WJ?

8k rpm on an FS reliably is going to want some long rods. Which means custom pistons. So while you're at it, why stop at 10.7:1 compression? if you are going custom anyway, and can get good fuel, go to 11, or 12:1.

Also, please jump over to the NA tech section and fire up a build thread. Everyone in there (myself included) is desperately in need of inspiration. You'll also find some threads which give you the "recipe" for building an 8000rpm, high powered NA FSDE - theres more to it than high compression pistons :)

I wanna say thanks for all your help man! Has anyone ever tried puttin a B18 or K 20 honda motor in our cars, just wondering, at least it's a japanese motor right.

No..
i dont think anyone has tried that.
and why on earth would you want it? if you wanted to use those motors, you'd go buy a civic or an integra.

For starters, interacting with the protege dash would be borderline impossible.

Mechanically it wouldn't be difficult assuming it all fit, but you'd need custom mounts, custom shafts etc. and then it would no longer be a mazda... it'd be some sort of b@stard child...

Cause I love my P5, I bought it for the looks mostly,,but the motor is behind the times and those Hondas come from the factory with great heads and everything else, right. I dig the RSX type S alot I wanted one in '06 but sticker was 26K and my P5 was 17K in '02 so I decided to keep it. If I could put that 2L Miata variable valve timing motor in reasonably I'd prefer that ( no turbo).

Good luck with the build dude, looking forward to what you end up with in terms of build plans.

Oh that sucks, I didn't know. Was only in the WJ terminal for obvious reasons, but will be flying through Edmonton flying AC on the way back. Sorry dude :(

You are way off topic here i think mate.. but there are options if you want more pep and you dont want to spend an absolute tonne of money on the FSDE. The FE3N should bolt in - the KLZE is proven to be more or less a bolt in, both motors are plenty capable of making some big NA numbers for significantly less than what you'd spend on the FSDE.

Please forgive my complaining sir. Wow 700 posts I made.

God of all mazda 4 cylinder engines. Started life as a concept diesel engine so its as tough as nails. 86x86mm bore and stroke, will rev to high heaven, and in stock format makes 145hp to 170hp (depending on the version). Basically a mazda designed, cast iron SR20 equivilant. Its a beast. (real name is FE-DOHC)

How much fabrication do you think this FE3 will take to swap? Why didn't they use them in the Protege 5's?
