Looking for 1974 AC Kit for RX4

:
Mazda, RX4, 1974 NEW
Hello All,

Does anyone know where I can get a full factory AC kit for a 1974 Mazda RX4? I would prefer to have an OEM unit but if that's not available then can someone suggest an "invisable" (non intrussive ugly kit) aftermarket unit.

Thanks in advance,

MAx G

I had a '74 RX-4(it was my third rotary, now I'm on my seventh a RX-8). I drove it for four years and then the first RX-7 came out(may '78). My wife said she wanted the RX-4 but would only take it if I put in A/C. I asked the dealer at the time and he sent me to a local A/C service center, because none were available anymore (it was 4 years old). It cost $750 at the time to get done. It was one that they put in alot of Japanese cars, not OEM. I HATED how it made the front end feel so heavy! I would not recomend it as it will not keep it orginal and bring down the value of such a nice car. I saw your other post....that is a nice find....store it...dont ruin it!

Advice, Thankyou

Hello "Old Rotor"

Thanks for the advice. I dont want to de-value the car as it will end up costing me about 10K after getting transported and cleaning the carb etc... I also need to replace the muffler and tail pipe along with the driver wiper (not the arm) as those are the only two things ever changed on the car. Rest is stock and as new from day one.

I will keep searching for an OEM unit new or used if in great shape to rebuild (without holding my breath). IfI have to buy a complete parts car I will do so as it seems very hard to find items for these babies. Hopefully she will last another 30 years with no troubles.

Thank you again,

Max G
