Look what happened to my poor Pro5 : (

I think that's the piece that he actually ran over. They are doing construction all over the place here too and you see those stupid things sticking 4-6" out of the road surface.
Sorry about your car. That is a lot of damage or so it seems. Good luck!

my buddy hit a manhole cover last yr in a stretch of road they were working on,,he hot it at night, busted up his rim and tire real bad...the town paid him for the damage it was like $900!

jeez, makes my blown tire incident look like a joke. Best of luck with the City. Make sure whatever you do, be nice to the city. If you are a jerk, they just will say that they are sorry, and stick you with the bill.

i walked back to where it happend and saw what i hit... it was a friggin top of a pipe, like a manhole cover but smaller, they had cut it off from the pipe and it was left on the road!!! i was sooo pissed.

Somebody was incredibly irresponsible to leave that thing in the road. Look what it did to your car. Now imagine what it would have done to a motorcycle - and its rider.

UPDATE:

i went to mazda and they gave me the estimate... they said that they need to change:

tire
rim
hub & bearing
both rear stabilizer links
possible rear strut
ABS sensor
exhaust heat sheild
4 wheel alignment

and then after that, they have to recheck everything again for more damage..

and the total is $2200cdn...

Jesus..that must of been one hell of a big piece of metal to reck all that! I can't believe you didn't see it. **** :(

I fear if there were construction signs up you might be outta luck in getting any reimburment because you're supposed to drive causiously lower speed and all that s*** but you never know. If it doesn't work out in your favour though I'd consider..

Disengaging the ABS and not worry about the sensor, hold off on the endlinks if they aren't broke and get some new one's later on because you may want to change your sway bars and it would be a complete waste of money to get new links now. You mentioned you took it to the dealership and they'll try and take you for a ride (usually), so if they're just loose don't worry about them right now, they'll just make a lot of racket but your car will work fine just ease up on turns and they are a grey area as far as inspection goes. You might be able to find a heat shield at a junk yard, I'm assuming it's just the lower piece that's messed up which takes two $2.09clamps from crappy tire and about 20 min to fix (had to fix mine last week lol) and put your stock rims on till you can get a new one so you'd only have to buy a tire unless you already have some.

Good luck!

Poor P5 (sad2)

thanks for the well wishes and advice guys, i really appreciate it.

i would have swerved out the way, but i had just changed lanes when i hit it. : (

i just have to send them a fax now explaining what happened and wait the the investigation.... wish me luck! i'll keep u guys updated...

Something like this happened to mine and thats when all the problems started.

I hit the biggest pot hole on the gardiner...and the entire front passenger side dropped while I was doing 110 or so, and the gear popped out of 5th!

I ended up going to the garage and they put back a piece of plastic that was rubbing up against the axle, which I thought had cracked on impact.

I had to replace my 5th and reverse gear shortly after due to this.

Not fun.

I know the feeling...sorry to hear about this.

As far as rims go...I have a set of 4 that barely have any clicks on them because I had them replaced @ 80,000 kms under warranty. They probably have something like 20-25,000 kms on them. The original ones I got replaced, the paint was bubbling.

If you're interested let me know. There isn't anything wrong with the rims, I just want to get a set of 17's for the summer. I'm up to 230 kms on my car and the rims were not driven at all last year.

I kept my winters on all of last year to give me more cushion because I moved to Montreal and the roads SUCK and I knew I was going to replace the winter tires come october.

I have them up for 600$...4 tires included, 2 need immediate replacement.

I gotta go fix my EGR problem now! =:)

aw man gsmooth, that really sucks... i do feel real crappy now... sorry to hear it happened to u too...

thanks for the offer but actually i ordered a rim from mazda yesterday at $350 : s... although for some reason i thought it would be more... now i have to buy a tire...

im only gonna replace the wheel and tire myself cause ive been driving on the spare for a while now, and it makes me really nervous... im going to wait until i hear from the city before i do anything else..

i still cant believe this happened... it seems like the stupidest thing ever..

Whatever you do, don't go to Canadian Tire or Walmart to install/balance the new tires. Heard too many horror stories from them.

lol oh i def will not be going to them... the last time i went to CT for an emission test, they had to rotate my tires cause the fronts were in such bad condition.... they forgot to put 2 bolts back on one of the rear wheels... not just 1 but 2!!! i didnt realize till a couple weeks later when i went to buy new tires and they told me i was missin them....

im surprised with the way i drive nothing happened.

oh and i got a letter today from york region saying they got my fax and they gave me a claim # so i guess things r starting to get on the way... hope it goes well.

wow, at least they are not keeping you in the dark. in nc, you would be responsible for getting your claim number and any updates. GL!!
