Well i recently got the clutch TSB done. I am very happy with the result. Car had over 30k miles. Dealer mentioned clutch smelt like it was burning up when i pulled in.
A little history on this journey. The car has been in for all recalls/tsb's. I think total shop time is in excess of 1.25 months in the past 6 months. Including random CEL's, Bad/leaking Turbo, Flash & Swirl Valve & another flash.
I was denied for the clutch tsb by 3 dealers. 1 time had had a service guy tell me that he was going to have a Tech sit in the car and teach me how to drive AWD Stick. Mind you I have owned 3 manual drive cars. I have driven over 20 manual cars. (notcool)
The 3rd dealership had the car for 24hrs and claimed there was nothing wrong w/ the clutch. It's normal for this car.
While the car was at the 3rd dealership I called up Mazda Corp and told them my car was at dealer #3 for the clutch TSB issue. They opened up a claim. I followed up with calls but took over 1 week to get back to me stating that if the dealership was unable to verify issue..they weren't willing to do the work. Also, they mentioned even though i was a TYPE A clutch didn't mean mine was bad.
So recently the car threw a CEL..it happened on way to work so i called a Mazda dealership in the area and they were willing to take my car that day.
I show up and mentioned the CEL and we get to talking and i mention that i spoke to Mazda corporate recently about all the recalls. I went on to say i recently got the swirl valve and other pcm flash. I mentioned there was a TSB for the clutch out and Mazda Corp stated my Vin# matched and i should take into shop to verify. The service guy goes well i can't find it in my system...and he goes i will talk to my tech and see if they find anything...so i am waiting around for loaner car and the guy goes "i found it." i verified it was it and he goes.."I WILL HAVE THEM OVERNIGHT THE PARTS FOR YOUR CLUTCH TSB"
Well i have the car back now & put about 175 miles on the new clutch. The CEL was for a Purge Valve which they replaced.
Anyone know the break in period for new clutch? I have been babying it the whole time. Mind you we have snow on the ground.
Initial impression: Clutch is much smoother...Shifts between 1st and 2nd have improved slightly. It's not as notchy as it used to be. It disengages smoother. Clutch is easier to operate than the orginal. (yippy)
