Yeah, I guess I mean: Evan has put a lot of work into his car and it is his daily driver. If it goes down (which could be for any reason including a KL swap maybe, but a turbo certainly doesn't make it more reliable) I'd hate to see his time, money, and effort go to waste and him get discouraged. And it is his only mode of transportation, so he would be hitchhiking everyday to work...LOL

I laugh in the face of Civics as well, but Evan does have a sort of Civic background. I love talking about him like this isn't his thread and he won't read it...LOL

The more and more I do research, the more and more I want a KL-ZE swap. The motor and trans will be roughly $1000 shipped from an online source. And having an 02' protege means I get to use a lot of my stock parts like the axles and trans mount. I'm still doing research, but I'm really leaning towards this swap. Buying another car like a Civic probably isn't the best choice for me. I've owned 3 Civics and love the D and B series and know Hondas very well. But there just isn't anymore room at our house for another car. Haha! And honestly, I think riding a motorcycle would sacre me on public roads. People don't know how to drive in Ohio.

I love my P5 and like Chipmunk said, I've put a lot of work into it and would hate to part it out and start from scratch. Plus I've got my quarterly bonus coming in 2 weeks so that could pay for the motor and tranny. And this is my DD and only car so I would probably buy the motor and trans and work on them during the winter and make sure I have everything sorted, then swap in the spring. Hmmm...

Phen, what if I get an OBD2 motor? Or put in an OBD1 motor and just ask them to politely use the sniffer test instead? Or get it registered to a friends house without E-check...

idk how ohio is with inspection, but in NC it is fairly easy to pass a car that shouldnt lol
im actually getting my car inspected today by a friend, and i have no cat, no egr, no pcv, and a completely diff ecu
so its all about who you know haha

I don't have any friends at e-check. Blast! You lucky bastard, Simon.

Well I just got it checked a few months ago (before I went catless for a while) so I'm good till June of 2012 and by that time I'll hopefully be able to find a place to register it to a friends house without e-check or something. I don't want silly emissions to restrain me from having a V6 in my wagon. Ppffsht...

Well if you want a v6 wagon with no hassles you could always go this route. Well, no hassles with echeck...you might have some other pre-owner issues to iron out. :D

Mmm, Bimmers are very sexy indeed, Jeff. But I think I'll pass on the headache of working on them. Not to mention I'm sure that beast is much heavier than my P5.

Ah....but you wouldn't have to work on them....that's what Phen is for. lol (hi) Phen :D

Didn't think of the pig factor....back to the drawing board.

Haha! I don't like Phen working on my car. He and I have completely different wrenching styles and we both know it.

I'm thinking I'll work on the KL-ZE in the garage all winter making it perfect and taking my time, then swap it in the spring. My FS-DE is still running strong so there is no rush. :)

Sounds like a good plan. If you are going to do it, better to do it now while you can take your time and do it properly then wait until your FS-DE becomes a problem (knocks on wood that it will not) and then you are rushing to get your dd back on the road.

Any car that is OBD2 from the factory must comply to OBD2 testing. Trust me, I tried that with the MSM before I decided to register it elsewhere. If you did get an OBD2 motor and got it to communicate properly with the OBD2 port for e-check purposes, you could probably work it.

After that, all you have is wiring and I think I read somewhere that you need different axles?
