Leaky CV Boots

My boots aren't cracked or torn, they are simply leaking out a little on the transmission side and spraying nearby parts.

All I need to do is tighten down the clamps, and I know I need a special set of pliers, but I have no idea which ones. There are several different types of CV boot pliers.

Can anyone point me to the hardware that I need?

Thanks.

i just did both the inner and outer cv boots on the driver side, there is a special crimping tool meant for the clamps i picked up from my snap on dealer but im sure you can find the same tool at sears. just a fair warning they are a real pain in the ass and if you are replacing the outer boot you must completely disassemble the inner half of the cv shaft. and you are going to want to pick up a new outer seal on the trans as well or it will leak gear lube. just have patience and clean everything and use fresh grease and you will be fine.

and fyi if they are flinging grease everywhere your going to want to take the boot off and inspect the joint for wear or you may be putting a clamp on for nothing. your local parts store will have the clamps you need and if you go the route of replacing the whole boot the regular protege cv boots WILL work, its the axle that wont.

are you sure its not the axle seal leaking everywhere? My driver side is leaking slightly and it looks like a mess, yet it doesn't drip on the ground at all.

Yeah it's very obvious where the leak is coming from. It's just seaping out around the inner (large) band of the CV joints. I put a hose clamp around both of them and tightened it down and that's actually doing the trick for now, but certainly not happy with this shoddy solution.

Thanks for the tips. I am a little worried about wear, but it's not much grease and there's defintiely a lot still in there as more squeezed out as I tightened up the the hose clamps.
