Hey guys, i was out messing around in the snowy parking lots an hour ago.. When i got back in my car and started it 20 minutes later i drove 600 feet and noticed that i couldnt shift into any gear. I turned the car off and pulled the plastic piece around the shifter off felt around and tried shifting the car with it off and it shifted, then i started the car and i shifted normal. I then drive like 15 miles and re park the car and can smell tranny oil. i back my car up and can see a trail of tranny oil. Iam waiting for a jack to get here to inspect. Any ideas as to what may have happened? It is sitting in my friends garage right now!

well let me just jump through the screen and take a look for you....... just as I thought, your carbs are bad......

lol anyway it could be a few things, drain plug came out, tranny broke in half etc. Only way to tell is pull up your big girl panties and get under the car. Or tow it to a shop.

^that's what i was thinking...
you didn't hear and loud cracking noise or thump while playing in the parking lot... you must of hit something

no didnt hear anything.. my main question is, is there tranny fluid right on the other side of the bellhousing? becasue the piece missing is litterly right where the tranny meets the bell housing and i know there is no fluid in the bell housing... everything shifts perfect so i dont think anything came apart in the tranny... iam thinking something smacked it while driving....

Here is a picture.

Thats not good man, and yes there is fluid in there that seam is what seals the fluid in. You're either gonna need a new tranny or be a pro with the ole jb weld. Either way you're probably gonna have to pull you're tranny if you wanna fix it right. You won't be able to get a good seal without taking the tranny apart.

It won't shift good for long once the thin layer of oil on all your gears eventually works its way out.

Find a 2nd gen 4cyl Probe transaxle to use in the meantime. Speaking from experience some of the most painful and expensive car lessons are the ones which you cause yourself.

when i did my rod bearings i had to separate the bell housing from the tranny, and no fluid was coming out then?

Why would there be anything other than dirt maybe considering your rear seal was still intact as was your transaxle back then. The later is no longer the case, no pun intended.
