Laptop sound on a Stock 6CD deck?

Hi
I just got my Mp5 and love it, since i have a laptop with a big screen and dvd player I was wondering if anyone knew how to setup a line in on the stock stereo. Ideally I would like to be able to mount a 1/8 inch jack out of the way and have it activated when i press the MD/Tape button. I could probably figure it out if someone had a pin out for the connectors, but I was wondering if anyone has tried this before. I haven't even looked behind the stereo so it could be easy but i though i'd check to see if it's been done or if someone has tips. Thanks :)

Welcome to the boards. I hope you'll be sticking around :D

You need a mini to RCA adapter and a RF modualtor. The RF modualtor will need power, ground and a switched power and will take in the factory intenna lead form the rear of the radio and gives you another antenna lead out to hook back to the stereo. Once connected and turned on the radio will need to be on 88.7FM or something simalar to here the source attached to the RF modulator.

Check sounddomain.com for them, they are only about $50.
THere is no other way to integrate with the factory radio.

Thanks for the help! I was planning on using the FM modulator setup if I couldn't figure out another way of doing it. However i still think it can be done and have enlisted a few electrical engineering students help. I could be wrong though, but i beleive it's posstible because mazda's proprietary tape OR MD can be attached, this leads me to beleive the sound levels are standard. I'll keep everyone posted however finals are coming up and it may be a while. Thanks for the help.

Cool, no one has gone that deep into it and I know even soundgate doesn't have a CD changer adapter yet.
However if you radio is expanable with a cd or md then it should be possible.

I'm actually hoping that Mazda will come out with a Sirrius tuner that can slot in the stock Tape/MD opening. The new second generation stuff is small enough.

Ah-hah!

Someone had the same idea as I did, I see. =) I was hoping there would be a Mazda part for it, but I wasn't holding my breath. If you do end up getting something together, tell me. =) I'd be interested in taking a look. Personally, I would think that all you would need is the plug that connects up to the minidisk/tape port, a good printout of the pin out, A soldering iron, and some time to figure it out. =) I can't imagine it'd be TOO difficult, but it may require a little breadboard work. I'll take a look around to see if I can find any info, too.
