Lancer Evolution VIII MR version

I've never figured out why they call it a mr.Is the engine pushed further back into the engine bay like the rx-8 is or is it just another name for a type of performance package theyre adding?

MR is for the performance package, as the article mentioned, slightly bigger turbo for a little more power, new suspension setup, lighter BBS wheels and sticker tires to mention the main ones...the new tailights are nicer but I still like the original evoVII red and white ones.

Ooooh I love this car. I think's its the only one I would change my MSP for. It's an EVO VIII but with less weight, better LSD's AND it costs less. Awww I love it.

you dont like the general look of the 8 or you mean the MR version specifically?

The only I can say that doesnt quite settle with me about the 8 is the front fascia, honestly loved the 7 but not the 8, would probably go with a Cwest front end after a while.

the one that says tommi on the front looks the best.
so the MR is just a suped up version of the evo8? how can they make it cost less than the evo 8??

also i have a question about the air intake. you know in the under hood picture it looks like the air intake has a funnel thing that leads air from around the grill to the airbox, i've noticed that i think the skyline and some other cars have this same funnel thing too. the protege has also got a smiliar set up but no scoop, just a snorkel thing. but when you close the hood of the protege it seals the snorkel inside the hood making the engine get air from inside the engine bay. i was wondering is it the same for the evo? like when you close the hood does it close off the inlet to air entering from the grill?

MR = Muthafucking Rapid
(It actually stands for Mitsubishi Racing)

I think you're thinking of the RS, which is the stripped Evo and costs less as there are less bells and whistles: ie no sound deadening, radio, AC, power windows, rear wing, etc.

Anyone have MSRP for these things? Will they even be offered in the US. All articles I've read say the target market is Europe.

FR engine in front, MR engine infront of rear axel, RR engine behind rear axel

Basically an Evo 8 w/ all the stuff u guys sed plus it's a 6spd.Looks cool,but if I had the $$$$$,I'd still take an STI.I don't really trust Mitsubishi(quality-wise).

i always understood it to be

FR = front engine, rear drive
RR = rear engine, rear drive
FF = frone engine, front drive

yes...you understood it correctly...and MR is mid engine'd, rear wheel drive...

but thats Gran turismo stuff...the "MR" for this Evo has nothing to do with that...its the same layout as before...

the base RS starts under 30,000 from what I remember, before any dealer mark up bs...and this is the most expensive...but the best performance...its as light as the RS almost, but with a bigger turbo and better wheels/tires...Its interesting how R&T says "bigger turbo for low and mid range power"...never heard of that...bigger turbo for better high end power, and more lag...thats the way I understand it...small turbo's are great for lowend torque, but piss out at upper rpm...

Yes,We will never see a Evo with the same drivetrain as an NSX or an Enzo(Mid Engine Rear Drive-MR)

no, it costs 33k, a base evo is just below 30k. def. worth the extra money though to get an mr, better get on the waiting list a few months ago though

the best part about the mr is the active center differential, the way it should've been sold here to begin with. hopefully they bring one over with active yaw control too

don't like the wheels, wing, pimples on back window ???, shifter, front end, tails...hmmm, and dash.

Other then that, it's ok.

I love it, the wheels are better than the enkeis IMO, stickier tires, lighter weight, bigger turbo and of course the corresponding cosmetic upgrades. Pricing is nice also, about 2-3 k over the base evo's and that a great deal for everything your getting in the package....hell the turbo and suspension/lsd upgrade alone is probably worth that much.
