mtv programming is for the mindless.... simple... my gf watches that s*** all the time and i can't stand it...i watch sports/education type stuff (hist/disc and the like) and the ocassional crime drama... can't really believe what mtv is puttin on the air now adays... how is that programing making them money?? i can't believe that that many people like to watch what a bunch of little rich kids are doing to spend their parents wad...

Im getting dish network next week, can anyone tell me how many discovery/ learning channels there are ? I havent had the dish before, it better be better than digital cable...

yeah i watched one year of survivor a while back to give reality tv a try... watched that full season and haven't gone back to dark side since... really scary what the general american public likes to watch... my dad is in broadcasting and gets the weekly neilson ratings and i am blown away at how many people watch such bad tv....

the only reason i would go to a dish over cable would be for the nfl sunday ticket!! had it a while back it was the s***!!!! man oh man you feel like god being able to watch any nfl game you want, and with a dvr the possibilities get even crazier!!! the rest of the channel line up iirc was almost identicle...

Anything else on tv these days meant to entertain is crap.

What chanel pack are you getting? Back when I first got dish, we had top50, top100, and then the 150 pack. They've changed a few things around since then but I'm on the 50/60 now and I get TLC, discovery (reg), and history channel. I'm not sure if A&E falls under the "learning" category since I never watch it, but that's about it until you get the 100+ & 150+ channel packs.

Agreed! MTV should be destroyed. I can't stand any show on there anymore! Real World is just as annoying as Laguna Beach. The only decent show (Viva La Bam) isnt on this season...what happend to the good ol days (Beevis and Butthead, Tom Green, Jackass...)

I'm really glad I don't watch much tv. I got cable internet from comcast WITHOUT cable tv, i'm probably the only one! I usually watch PBS, that seems to be the only broadcast channel in my area with mentally stimulating shows, plus motorweek (shot right down the street from my old job) and the Red Green show. I can't stand the big three networks, nor FOX or UPN. Ten years ago PBS sucked, but they have really made a turnaround, especially embracing HD broadcasts.

No, I don't. I have a toshiba flat screen, but the HD broadcasted shows look much better than regular broadcast shows even on non-HD tv's.

lol I just found this thread, funny how TV hasn't changed..actually a little worse. But now I have to watch Big Brother, Real-World/Road Rules Challenge, Dance Group or whatever and Jon & Kate Plus 8 (8 crying kids for an hour....awesome)
