Lagging after 4000rpm arrgg!

Hello everyone out there... I'm new to mazda forums and also a new owner to a mazda protege mazadspeed. I'm currently incountering a problem with power. When ever i go past 4000 say 3500 rpm im losing power even if I floor it, it doesn't move. Mind you it only happens ever so often. I also see that my coolant resivoir is leaking and i continue to top it up. Its not smoking nor overheating and the gauge remains normal. Could the coolant be the cause or is my turbo shot??

Might be fuel cut or heat soak. Do you have a boost gauge? If so, what is it reading during boost? If you don't have one, definitely get one asap so you can keep an eye on things. Not to mention its almost impossible to diagnose some problems without it.

Yah, I heard the same term Heat soak, cause it only lags sometimes. I heard by getting a bigger intercooler it stops the problem.. I love the car though.. I also heard its how u know ur car.... How much for pressure gauges..???

Is your car stock? The stock SMIC is very popular for heat soak.

Well a FMIC or upgraded SMIC will stop the heat soak problem. But that's only if heat soak is your problem. It may or may not be. A mechanical boost gauge shouldn't run you more than $75; electronic gauges are more expensive though. I think you can pick up an autometer one at autozone or advance. They aren't hard to install either.

if your loosing coolant i bet your water pump is leaking have you done the timing belt and waterpump on this car or has it been done before u got it? make sure to check cuz if ur belt snaps u could be ******

I'd like to know the end result as well. I just recently turboed my MP3 and am having a very similar issue. Only mine ist sometimes. Its pretty much all the time. around 4 to 4 1/2 k rpm range my power seems to just fade...boost gauge holds the stock 6-7 psi of boost but I feel it just stop pulling. I dont know about fuel cut anymore cuz Im using a ss afc as well and have tried numerous maps and nothing changes it...cant figure it out?!
