Pardon my french but that car is ******' hot. If that car was a woman I would honor its family. It has some amazing styling cues like the DTM styled fender flares. I'd kill a nun for that car.

Maybe he hit the wrong number key when he meant 300?

Even 300 isnt that much of a boost in hp.

I don't like it. The lines are all messed up, that body kit is really nasty, and the roofline generally reminds me of a mercury cougar. (not the new one, not the old old one)

What happened to the clean, sexy lines of the RX-7?

Yup, Renesis rotary is 250hp from the factory. BUT, it's only 162 lb-ft of torque and the peak is up pretty high, like 5000 rpm. Gotta rev them puppies to make 'em move.

Compared to the old turbo RX-7, the new RX-8 was much more composed in the corners, but the RX-7 left it behind in the straights. See first drive in Sport Compact Car magazine.

this ain't an RX-7 so you can't go comparing the 2. they're completely different cars

Twiztedjeckel, thank you for enlightening me. How could I have ever guessed that they're two completely different cars?

We compare different cars all the time. Eg - which car looks better, the MSP or the Spec-V?

In this case while they are different models, they are both made by Mazda. I think it's fair to compare them. The whole point of my mention of the FD was to say that I am disappointed in the design of the car which is in a sense the replacement for the long lost 3rd-gen RX-7.

I think the FE undergoing development as we speak will be a better replacement.
But I agree that it's impossible not to draw comparisons between the FD and the RX-8, even if the RX-8 is not meant to be a replacement for the RX-7.

Well, to be fair, nothing official has ever been said about the FE by Mazda, but hinted at heavily. I think they are waiting to see if the RX-8 is successful before bringing back the flagship RX-7.
