So i got my girlfriend a 2004 Mazda 3S sedan....nice car, white, with black leather seats, 6 discCD, moonroof, etc.

Is there an easy way to tell if this car came equipped from the factory with keyless entry/alarm??? Reason i'm asking is the brand new remote i got will NOT program....i've tried a few different methods i've found online, the car responds by clicking the locks and stuff, but remote will not work.

Anyone know much about these things??? Thanks

All 3s models in the US came with keyless entry. There are multiple different remotes used by different Mazda models and they also vary by year so it's possible you don't have the correct one. It's also possible that there's an issue with the KEU in the headliner. Could be several things.

The remote you want will have Visteon number 41486, 41525, or 41524 written on the back. A new one (last time I checked) ran around $60 new. '07 and newer ones are significantly more expensive and don't work on the older models. The p/n for the OE is BN8P675RY.

It sounds like you have the programming instructions since you're getting the locking confirmation, but that the car isn't 'hearing' the remote after that. Just to be sure here's the programming instructions.

Step 1: Open driver side door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and Unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn Key to ON position and return to Lock (off) position. Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. LEAVE key in the ignition in Lock (off) position.

Step 5: Close and open the drivers door 3 times. Leave door open after this step

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Additional remotes, repeat Step 7 for up to 3 remotes total.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series (about 4) of door locks and unlocks. You're done!
