Kartboy exhaust hanger melted!!!

I went to a lapping event on saturday and after leaving the site, i realized that my exhaust was hitting the rear cross member alot more than it usually does. so once i got home i looked under the car and saw that the bottom hole of the left exhaust hanger melted.

did this ever happen to anybody else?

seriously, i'm amazed at the amount of weird s*** that breaks on my car.

on the other hand, i managed to push the car to it's limits for 65km of track racing and nothing blew up this time except that. i was VERY surprised at the end of the day

i think i'm just gona go buy a Smart or something

nah i have the kartboy hangers and some of my friends do....never heard of anything like this...you sure you didnt just rip it when installing?

Are you turbo? how far do you push your car?

i pushed mine hard (redline-ing in 2nd and 3rd gear the whole time) for a little more than an hour on the track (5 sessions of 12 to 15mins) at boost levels of 12 to 15psi with straight exhaust. i've had the hangers on the car for about a month and didn't have any problems except after that day of lapping.

unless you do that kinda stuff often with your car i'm sure you'll be ok. also, the other thing that may caused this is that i have a custom exhaust. maybe the metal hangers that are welded on the exhaust are not long enough to keep the big heat away from the urethane hangers

i still have the exhaust hangers lying around here, i think i won't install them until this is cleared up :\

i'm sure. i had them on for a month and they were perfect. i used lithium grease to put them on and they went in just fine. i will take out the melted one and post a picture. there is no doubt that it melted from the looks of it

wow...thats insane!!! i def want to see the pic. wonder how the stock one would have held up?

oh and just incase your wondering...im not trying to call bs or anything...its just crazy. i believe you and everything......kinda worried about mine now cause i do track days but im n/a so i dont think i have THAT much to worry about.

yeah i still can't believe. i'm the only one that this kind of weird s*** happens to. it seems that i fixed my engine for good, no more timing issues thanks to the j&s safeguard, i'm running off the charts rich so engine is safe, brand new lsd, tranny is good ..... looks like my car is running out of parts to break to piss me off lol so now its taking on weird things like exhaust hangers

thats what the protege is good at...breaking a bunch of little bs things that do nothing but piss you off!!! my car does a lot of strange things like this also....but this one...i have to say is one of the best!

Well, with a straight exhaust it gets red hot down there if you push it like you did! Get steel hangers!

the 2 hangers that are holding the exhaust after my downpipe are still in perfect condition =\ this was one of the ones next to the mufflers

i thought the other ones would go 1st lol ... i'll figure something out with some clamps and maybe exhaust wrap
