I just got an amp that is like somewhat outdated but i dotn care cause it was pretty much free. but here are my questions and i am like pretty much a newbie at all this so please bare with me. I got teh following amp:

pyramid pb-777 (400 watts bridgeable, 2 channels, 2 ohm stable, built in sub crossover, etc)

here are my questions:

what are the ohms for and what is teh difference between 2 and 4 ohms?

what is the subwoofer crossover?

what exactly does bridgeable mean?

and if i only have a 2 channel amp and 4 speakers in my car, where do the other 2 speakers pus into?

thanx

Huston, we have a problem!

We'll start with teh questions:

Ohms are resistance to current and it is an electrical property of a subwoofer. There is no advatage to any particular amount of ohms except for which speakers you can use with that amp.
2 ohm stable means each channel of amplification can see no less then 2 ohms. This is typicaly 2 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel.

A subwofer crossover is a sound filter that gets rid of all high frequency sounds like vocals, guitars and such that a subwoofer can not reproduce. Remove the frequencies help a subwoofer perform. This is synonamis with low pass crossover. A high pass crossover is desired when you are powering speakers other then subs. A high pass filter, or crossover throws away damaging low frequencies to keep a speaker from getting nuked. Also to allow it to sound better louder.

Bridgable mean the amplifiers channel can be combined to give one channel of power more powerful then the 2 channels alone.

This amp sound like it was designed for subwoofers not for satellite speakers, aka door speakers. But you can either only power the front or rear pair of speakers or you can wire each left speaker to one channel of the amp and the right speakers to another channel. This will present the amp with the 2 ohm load I described above.

K, Thanx for your help. but i still have a couple more questions:

If only 2 speakers hook up to the amp, for example the 2 front spakers, where do i hook up the other 2 speakers? or can i not do that?

And how exactly do i attatch the sub to the amp? cause i am thinking of getting 2 12 inch subs.

thanx a lot

You can power all four satelite speakers by hooking up 2 speakers to each channel. Such and your right front, right rear on one channel and your left front and left rear on the other channel.

You cannot use the {2 channel} amp for your speakers and subs. It's either/or. If you decide to use it for subs (as it sounds like it was designed to do) the you will just run each sub on it's own channel. Or run them bridged by attaching them to the Right + and the Left -( or the Right- and the left+ I can never remember w/o looking).

Anyone else feel free to add/clairify anything.

You are right on. You can not, wihtout wasteing the amp, run all 4 speakers and the subs off a 2 channel amp.

What are you planning on running with this amp? SUbs or speakers?

With Speakers you can hook each right speakers (+) and (-) to teh amps right (+) and (-). And like wise with the left side speakers and amp left channel. If you run just the front speakers off the amp then the head unit powerd the rear speakers.

With subs you need to match the ohm load of the subs to the amp. You need subs that when combined will give you a total 4 ohm load.
If you know which subs let me know or get me a link and I can tell if they are going to work.

K, I get it a lot more now. Thanx for your help. just 2 more questions:

1) this may seem like a stupid question but does teh protoge 5 come stock with an amp? and if so can i use my amp that i got for the 2 subs, and the protoge's amp for the speakers?

2) So then what is the point of getting a good deck with like high wattage if you are gonna go through an amp for your speakers? do the speakers connect directly to the deck or something? how exactly does the whole process work?

I really appreciate your help.

thanx

NO, the P5 doesn not have an amp.

Typicaly the more expensive a head unit the more power and other features you get until you get to the really high line stuff that has no internal power.

Well, the P5's head unit has a small amp built into it to run the stock speakers, but you can't really run a sub off it. The idea behind a high-powered HU is that you can connect the speakers directly to it (just like your factory HU), but sometimes people opt to use the RCA outputs to connect the HU to another amp, and then the amp to the speakers (or subs). Or you can do a combination of this, like running your front speakers and sub off an amp (they're what really count), and then running the rear speakers off the HU.
