Just Installed Turbo Timer

Like the title says, just got it in around six in the afternoon. It was dark outside, my flashlight had no batteries so my buddy used his PDA to light up the underside of the dash!!! Yup, it does work, so I must say that I'm most likey the first person (and hopefully only, becasue it was a real stupid idea, not the PDA, but installing a turbo timer without a flashlight or a test light) to use a PDA as a flashlight while installing a HKS turbo timer in my MSP!

The car drives and there is no smoke comming out form underneath the dash (crossing my fingers and knocking on wood). Just thought that I would let you guys know!

Well, since Ned likely won't get on until after school, I'll field this one.

If you have proper lighting, it's about a 5-10 minute job. We started the job at like 5:30 with some light, but it got dark out, quick. Ned's flashlight was out of batteries, so the main problem we ran into was identifying color on wires.

Also, he had 2 red and 2 blue wires. We didn't know which ones we were supposed to use, so we guessed - and it looks like we got it right.

The HKS TT looks great in there - it's the same shade of orange as the dash. The only "problem" is that it's ultra-bright, so it makes everything else look slightly dimmer.

PS. I'm the friend with the PDA. :)

Easy. Like John said, I just picked one of the blue wires and one of the red wires that are coming off of the ignition. Seems that I got it right becasue the car runs fine with the key out (in other words, the turbo timer is doing its job). I used the pics from Britts web page and went from there.

The HKS is great, but like John said, the thing is so brigh that it makes the rest of the dash lights look red.

i was thinkin of getting a turbo timer but i need help installing it cause i have no idea on that stuff...i'm from san diego (n. county)...is there any places down there that could install it for me, and do u know how much it would cost for the install?

thanks

I bought mine at Pann Auto down in San Diego. I would not have them install it, I don't trust those people. The thing cost me $80, it is the HKS Type-O.

Where in North County do you live? I'll install it for you for a six pack of Guiness beer when I have the time.

Post or email me about what you would like to do.

Thanks . . .

big question, can you still use remote lock/unlock while the car is on with turbo timer?

No.....but someone had mentioned there was a way around that.

I just found that one out today. No, the remote lock does not work (that really sucks) but you can lock the car using the key in the door. I would like to know how to by pass this, so if anyone knows, please let me know.

AGR#7 My Brother and Dad are big fans of Stone also! How can you guys drink that stuff? The best beer in the world is Guiness, why even bother with other beers;)!

Unwrittenlaw, if you emailed me please email me again, I deleted your message because I did not recognize your name. Please use the title "turbo timer" or something like that. Thanks . . .

As a homebrewer, and connoisseur, I am a fan of many, many different Beers. Guinness is a good Irish Stout, but there are other Stouts I prefer over Guinness; such as Shakespeare Stout by Rogue Brewery (Newport, OR). And yes, Stone Brewery brews an excellent stout.

You can set up the alarm to let you lock and unlock the car while it is running, or you can set it up to passively arm and lock after the timer shuts off. I will post a diagram on how to do it somethime in the near future.

hrm...nice idea man.

how about a time delay circuit, maybe 30 seconds or so after you take the key out, it will contact the door lock switch. that is also useful if you just plain forget to lock your car, even if youre not going to using the timer....
