Just Bought My 06 Speed6 GT

I just wanted to introduce myself as a new Speed6 owner. Just picked up my 06 GT. I'll get some pictures up later tonight but I must say this is the most fun car I have ever driven!

I do have a couple of questions though.

1) The dealer...who apparently can't read, filled the car with regular. I had a 7hour drive ahead of me so there was nothing I could do about it. At half a tank I filled it with 93 and then on empty I filled it with 93 again. I defently have some turbo lag and stutter at higher RPM's if I have it floored. Also a slight back fire on shifts at high RPMs. Will this go away with a few more fill ups or is there something else I need to do?

2) I know on some cars, not the Speed6 per say, you can hack the DVD NAV to show other info on the car. Miles till empty, ave fuel econ, things like that. Anyone know if there is anything out there for the Speed6?

3) Will 17" wheels fit on this car? I want to get some snow tires and on the
18" wheels the cost is brutal.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

1) octane boost in the next tank should help...

2) no sorry

3) yes they do depending on the offset... I have a set of 17in Sport Edition F2 wheels with Blizzak tires I use for winter...

Welcome to the forum...

Yeah, but keep the offset 45mm-60mm for best results. You should easily be able to find some stock 6 17" pull-offs if you don't want to spring for custom winter wheels.

Thanks for the responses.

Ok I now have another question.

The car I bought has several aftermarket parts already including:

Top Mounted Intercooler
Xcel CAI
Turbosmart BOV
An exhaust but I haven't crawled under the car yet to see what kind.

With the turbo lag I am getting I was thinking about taking it to the dealer for the software update if getting an octane boost doesn't fix it. My concern is, what if the previous owner already got a CPU flash to something like the CP-E Full Control it would suck ass to lose that.

My question is:

Is there any way for me to check to see if this has happened or to see if the CPU has been flashed at all? <EDIT> Anyway other then going to a shop to do this?

Welcome! Congrats on the MS6, too!
The first thing to do is to make sure the mods you have installed are sorted out. This car shouldn't be exhibiting any of those symptoms in stock form, but your mods are a wild card. Find a good tuner who's smart about Mazdaspeeds. Meanwhile, check for obvious causes - poor installation, intake leaks, broken wires, disconnected connectors etc.

Don't mistake the traction control with stutter and lag at high RPM's. If you're really hammering the car at low speed, and TC trips in, you get a flashing "slippery" symbol on the dash and distinct power loss. Also, know that the throttle plate starts to close at around 5700 on the MS6 with the stock program.

Can't answer your question about the Nav, mine's not equipped.
