Just bought a MS6, thought I'd say hello...

Hey guys, former Mustang owner here moving into a more practical car. I just bought a velocity red Mazdaspeed 6 Sport, paid $26,125.00 out the door including the dealer installing a sunroof. I think I did ok.

Few questions. First, when I first start the car up in the morning, the idle will jump up to 2000 for a minute or two. Is this normal? Also, is there anything I should know about the 06's? Any recalls, or trouble spots?

Thanks, and the site looks really cool.

you paid too much, I thought sports were going OTD for 22,900....I would have talked them down to atleast 24,000.

Nontheless congrats on your purchase

I think you did alright considering you did get a sunroof added. I know the amount of rebate on this car depends on what region you live in. The northeast is not getting the same amount as the rest of the U.S of A.

since no one else answered your actually question (lol) yes thats fairly common in the mazdaspeed selection... My MS protege does it and every MS6 Ive started does the exact same thing.. its just a warmup process it has...

congrats on the purchase (I think you did decent on the price depending on where you live)

goodluck,
Sean

Thanks for the info. It only idles high on my first startup of the day, so it's definitely not a problem, just wanted to check.

Reading some of the other threads, I think a lot of you guys are confusing the MSRP, rebates, and out the door price. When I say I paid $26,125.00, I mean that is the total price I paid for the car after tax, tags, everything. I paid $24,200 MSRP, minus $1,500 manufacturer rebate, minus $1,000 Mazda credit rebate. So if you want to talk about the base price I paid for the car, it was about $21,700.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the family!

What you described is normal for the MS6 and the MSP as well.

The relatively high idle is normal for just about every car on the road today. It idles high as the engine is warming up, this allows the catalytic convertors to warm up to operational temperature as quickly as possible, therefore reducing emissions.

Just another modern "trick" to reduce emissions in newer cars.

I'm still amazed people pulling these 20,000 dollar Mazda speed6's out their asses... considering the lowest prices listed anywhere.... is 24,000 for a sport package...

I've seen a few auctions for well under that however they all have reserves set at 24,000 or higher... I've been to several mazda dealerships... 2 down by LA... 2 up here by SF... and another up in oregon... All of them "trying" to sell the car for 30,000+

Anyway, this car runs similar stats to an STI / EVO / A4... All Wheel Drive... Turbo... Close HP ranges... 4 doors... similar "luxury" features.. Navigation.. bla bla bla....

And all of those other vehicles listed are in the 28,000 - 35,000 price range... So I find it hard to believe mazda lets the speed6 out the door at 20,000.... Its a great car even when compared to these other well established models... And selling it for cheaper than the lower model non turbo less equipped mazdas... ?

Half of the people are making it up....

OTD including TTT...realistically landing a speed6 sport will cost you $26+ Yes i'm hatin...I was quoted high as s*** from a local dealer.

btw IIIIIIIIIIII'm BAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYCK!!

I think location matters too...

Congrats

JJ, you made an excellent choice. I got my Speed6 GT with everything but Navi out the door for $26K and change, I think some of the low ball numbers flying around are a little far fetched. The high idle is normal and to answer your questions about recalls, there was a recall for an intermittent lack of power. I just purchased mine 3 weeks ago, well after the recall and they didnt perform the maintenance until after I purchased. So yours may not have received the flash update. I would just hold off on it unless you have a problem, since some believe it affects the vehicles power (I tend to believe there is a slight difference). Have fun

That had to be after trade in. No way anyone is getting one that low. Or else I'm calling :bs:

There's still a lot of these cars just sitting on dealer lots. Most dealers are losing money on this car everyday because they're just sitting. It's already october and some of these things have been chillin' for a year already. I believe the rebate is up to 4500 in a lot of states, and that's with the 1000 financing through mazda. So subtact that number from your negociated sticker price. It's entirely possible for people to be getting these things for around 21K.

Newspaper ads within the last month in my location (Austin, TX): $21,495 after incentives including MAC finance and dealer discounts! Will they try to get you to pay too much for an extended warranty or some other BS? Yes! Am I upset? Yes! For my own selfish reasons . . . I wanted to trade-in for an MS3 and the dealer offer: $17K on a car with 13K miles.

A curse on all who can't/won't drive an excellent car just 'cause it's a manual. Of course, I'm sure the factory misadjusted clutch pedal doesn't help either. It all just makes me want to cry. Anyway, yes, they are selling the damn things ridiculously cheap in some places. But, if you're keeping it, enjoy it. It was a great car at anything below MSRP and it still is even if others get it cheaper.
