JL Audio e1800D vs JL Audio 500/1

It's time for me to upgrade my car audio. The first on the list is the amplifier and I can not decide which one to get. I'm considering the JL Audio e1800D, but I'm not sure if this would be the best amp for me to get. I have not yet decided what kind of subs I'll get, but it will be two 12"s. Right now I have two Audiobahns rated at 400 rms that work well. Should I get the JL Audio e1800D, JL Audio 500/1 or something else, like Audiobahn or Alpine...whatever. Help me decide. Also, I'm keeping the stock HU in my Mazda3.

I am mainly looking for feedback on the e1800D. Is it good? does it hit hard? JL is pricey, that's why I want to be sure I'm getting the right stuff.

the e1800 is only 240x1 at 4ohm and 400x1 at 2ohm which doesnt seem enough for two quality 12" subs

the 500/1 would be a better choice since it is 500x1 no matter the ohm rating

pick the subs and then pick an amp to match. it is easier to pick an amp to match subs, but it can be harder to match subs to a particular amp.

Got wake and I disagree on this one. Since your wallet speaks the loudest, I always say to pick the amp that fits your budget and then pick a pair of subs that match it. You should match RMS output or if anything have extra amplifier power to spare.

Take a look at DLS amplifiers (www.dlsamerica.com). I think they are slightly more affordable than the JL slash series and have the same if not better sound quality.

Both amps are about the same price. I'm not sure which one will be the best choice. I really like JL Audio and a couple of my friends that use their stuff really like it. In the case of this two amps, they both cost about the same...the question is which one will push two 12" the hardest and loudest from a stock HU (mazda3)

i think we can agree to the benefits of either purchasing method(drinks) if they are picked at the same time, then it really doesn't make a difference(rockon)

I'll drink to that (cheers).

If the 500/1 and e1200d are the same price I would pick the 500/1 hands down. It is a solid amp and will put out the rated power at any impedence and any voltage.

How much is the 500/1? $600-700? For $526 you can get a DLS Ultimate A6 (1x500@4ohms, 1x1200@1ohm).

Just keep in mind that with JL Audio, not only are you paying for the quality, you are also paying for the brand name. DLS has the quality but without the household brand name.

It's 500/1 and e1800D...not e1200d.

Both amps go for about $400 - $500 bucks each. I have decided to go with JL Audio, but need advice on getting either the 500/1 or the e1800D...

So far I learned that the e1800D has high level input which could come in handy since that I am keeping the stock HU. I will also run the set up at 2ohms. Both amps seem to be great...but which one would you get!!! (shocked)

I personally would choose the 500/1. It is a solid amp and as I said before it puts out the rated power no matter the impedence and no matter the voltage.

Yes, that is a huge plus. The only down side is that you don't get more power by running your system with lower resistance. The e1800D would give me rhe ability to do so, but than again, its not stable at 1ohm, so my choice really is 2 or 4 ohms with the two 12" that I have.

if you dont mind buying used i have seen the 500/1 sell for $250-300 shipped on other forums, you could buy 2 or you could buy a single 1000/1 for about $500 shipped

I would probably get the 500/1, seems to hav better specs, and has a regulated power supply, so regardless of the input voltage it would put out more power. Choose that then get the subs to match, like what has been said before.

The 500/1 sells for $549 at MAP and the E1800D is $499

Looks like the 500/1 is a better amp. The only thing that I'm worried about is that I will not be able to drive two 12" enough to reproduce a loud, clear and deep bass. What do you guys thing? Will the 500/1 be enough to cause some serious damage? (band)
