JAX region event yesterday... GREAT results

I had a local SCCA event yesterday with the Buccaneer region in JAX.

113 competitors
FTD: 65 Mustang in CP 42.xxx
Stock FTD: Me 44.800
Modified FTD: 92 Civic in SM 44.7xx
PAX FTD: Me, by a LOT...

I was the 4th quick time overall for the day, and I won DS by over 6 seconds...

The course was the ultimate high speed momentum course> I used the brakes seriously ONCE, with a few light taps elsewhere. The key was to just keep the speed up and go...

I have video, but I don't know how to get it small enough to post.

yeah, i got to go for a ride in that civic hatch in sm. INSANE. i didn't participate, i rode my bike up there just to say hi to a friend. that mustang was working the track hard. also cool to see chicks that know how to drive.

I swear the MSP may be one of the best autocross cars nobody cares about. If my bad driving ass can hang it out with the best of them I can't imagine what best could do with the car.

Great results, you need some Tour time this year with those race tires.

BTW Looks like I'm heading to Toledo to go head to head with KC at the Tour... mommy.

We had an event yesterday, not sure how I did because the results haven't been posted yet, but I think I did alright in the novice class. I agree this is an amazing autox car. I'll make a post once the results are posted. Please find a way to post the video scap, I'd loveeeeee to see it. How big is the file right now? You can get a free account on http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com and host videos up to 25 megabytes. Good job owning everyone!

Did you ride with Jesse or the car owner?

I suppose I should point out that the SM driver who edged me out was former Protege driver Jesse Naughton...

As they come out of the camera, a 1 minute run is about 240MB. In the past, I've shrunk vids down to about 50MB, but never in MPEG format, only AVIs...

Save it as an mpeg, then use windows movie maker, and play with the settings to make a .WMV. I think I use 768k at 30fps and they come out about 7-8mb for about 1 minute of video

Also, can you give some info on your camera mount? It's super stable, and I'd love to be able to buy something like that and take autox video. Thanks.

i rode with jesse. i didn't know the owner. when i was in the car it ran a 44.5 (only the 2nd time he'd ever driven the car). i think his best was a 44.7.

Awesome Video, got any more? I love in car autox vids. That course did look fun, what type of place is that? Like the venue, sure didn't look like a parkinglot hehe.

I have plenty more, but they are all in parking lots, this venue is the Batavia Motorsports Park, a kart track and as you can see has immense elevation changes and varying surfaces, it's a real challenge.

My mount is homemade from 1/2" aluminum square tubing mounted to my headrest posts with U bolts, then I have the head of my tripod bolted to the aluminum tubing...

Fun, can you upload the rest of your videos? I love to watch autox videos, and it's much cooler when it's a protege. Do you run the bar accross both headrests or just across the pass headrest? thanks.

The track looks a lot like where Motorweek used to do their car testing, back when they were still on PBS...

ed: I just tested it, it seems to work! Hurrah!!!!
Nice video, works perfectly. I'm at school right now so I can't watch it with sound, and I'm technically not allowed to watch videos here, so I'll have to enjoy it in full at home tonight. Got any details on your camera mount setup? Pics? I'm trying to figure out what I wanna do about cam mount. Got any other vids to upload? It's really awesome seeing in car protege autox.

The bar just goes across the passenger headrest

I don't have the webspace to upload many vids, I only have 50mb and it's almost used up. Eventually I'll be posting vids from this season which starts soon.

www.we-todd-did-racing.com offers free hosting for car videos. You get 25 megs but you can always make multiple accounts. Good luck in this coming season, I can't wait for the vids. Hopefully I'll have some when I get a cam mount that's good. Lemme know if you upload any other vids.

I have lots more video, but not in a showable format right now. Most likely I won't bother because it's pretty old by now, and I am a better driver now than I was the last time I recorded video...

I use a HAMA camera mount for my camcorder. It is suction cup based and mounts on the passenger side of the front windshield. The onlt problem with it is that I can't see my hands, so it's harder to analyze my driving style... It was $100 from www.ioportracing.com

I am thinking about getting another camera. There is a company making a mini camera that mounts just about anywhere, and uses a buffer to record: it keeps a 30sec buffer full, and when you push the button, it records the last 30 seconds. I would mount it in my helmet, and record 30 sec of each run to see where I'm looking out on course...

It would also be nice to overlay the 2 video streams to get a look at BOTH views at the same time; like an over/under view...
