2002 Protege 5
Here is a cute little story i though i would share. I recently put a ractive intake in my protege... Jarman Mazda in Edmonton put it in for me. When i drove my car home, my brake pedal and gas pedal felt like they were going to explode when i was at a dead stop. So i found out from you guys that this was the intake rubbing on my brake caliper, so i told them to fix it... guess what they did... just extended and bent the pipe. So, the brake rattle was gone, but now my intake was rubbing up on my radiator hose and radiator shell... so i show them this and they tell me not to worry.

Well, since they are certified mazda mechanics, they obviously suck to the max, so i had to alter my intake my self... cutting te hose and one of the nice little yellow gaskets, and this pushed in my intake to the nice free space beside the radiator reservoir. Looks a little better placed now, and i have no rattles.

THanks Jarman for nothing.

I just cant wait untiul i go in for service one day and they tell me no due to modifying my engine... then i will be on the front page of all the papers for.. well... you know.

Great car, but unfortunately bad service.

wow that sucks

Dude that blows .. how on earth does your intake rub on your breaks ... and also I personally would have lost my freakin head if I found out that they bent my intake . i would have bent him ... and I mean are you sure that the intake is made for your car i mean I got the injen and it is no were near my brakes or Radiator ??? it goes down the hole under the radiator resevior ????? my only problem (which can easily be fixed) is tht my filter is right up against the side of the inner frame wall side.. but thats no biggie .. can you post a pict of your engine so i can see what you are talking about ... i did nto even knwo ractive made an itake for our MP5

I think he meant the intake was rubbing up against the brake master cylinder, not the actual driver's side brake... The bend where the intake comes off of the throttle body was too long it sounds like, and it was hitting up against the brake master cylinder. Hope that helps.

I borrowed this picture from the forum..... since it is a Ractive intake. Anyway, up where the yellow arrow is, thats where is was hitting.. and quite hard.. my brake cylinder... then they decided, where i circled, to "ben" or pull, if you ill, on the intake a little to bring it awa from the cylinder... then, of course since they are pulling it on the bracket more towards the left, the filter started to hit and rub the hose and edge of the radiator. So, i had enough... though i would cut the pipe an inch shorter (where the purple is) and had to trim the yellow rubber in order to compensate for the shorter pipe. I also changed the braket that they bent and through the bent one "away". But at least now my filter sits in the open on the right hand side of my car.

Oh yah, before i forget... i asked tem to tint my car for me, dealer said 400 for the back 7 windows.... then i decided to go MYSELF to where they get their cars tinted... cost me $300 canadian for 9 and to get my foglights coated with clear 3M.

CAI problem

wellthats your problem ..youhave a short ram also i cannot see if you have that 90 degree angle flex hose peicce comming off your manifold or not ... ill get a much closer picture and post it on here for you to show you what i mean ill be right back and get it on here

Not to be an ass, but

you're blaming the dealership for "messing up" an installation of a part that was not OEM and Mazda-designed? IMHO, and I could be wrong, it seems to me that Ractive is to blame for not designing the intake such that nothing would rub against anything.

Well than the dealer should not be selling and telling all of us P5 owners here that it was given to them by Mazdaspeed to sell on the proteges.... im basically saying that professional installation is something i will never do again... the only reason i had them do it in the first place is so i would not be told tough luck when warranty work would come around, of course having them tell me no warranty since i installed it. The receipt says they installed it... they are liable.
