WHAT ARE CARS
I am applying for student loans in hopes of snagging a Miata. Wish me luck.

My dad picked up a '94 black & tan with an automatic (he has MS so a stick is out) with 130,000 for $2500. Winter's the best time to buy one.

Good luck!!

Good luck man, I want one too! What are you looking for, and how far are you willing to travel?

1990 - Silver
or
1994 - Black (first year for blacks..)

Manual, don't care about options. Willing to drive 100 miles.

They had black before 1994. I think as early as 1991. I'll look into it and get back to you.

Edit: Here is is: http://www.miata.net/faq/miatachanges.html

1992 in the C package only. 1993 in any package by the looks of it, and the '93 LE was black with a RED leather interior. Only non-black or tan interior in a Miata until the 1999 10AE. Also the only Miata to have seperate headrests from the seatbacks. Ugly seats!

Good luck, I snagged mine for $2900...not to brag. It's in remarkable shape and I haven't had to do any mechanical work(except an alignment which my dad did yesterday) since I bought it 2 weeks ago. Top is only 2 years old. 5 speed. Mmmm...not bragging no I'm not...maybe.

Before this one, earlier in the year(like June I think it was) I had my eye on a $800 '91 Silver 5 speed, needed a clutch, some work, a rear window, etc. Interior was in good shape though. Exterior had 2 spots of missing paint and 1 noticeable dent. It had been sitting for a while, in the grass, with flat tires. My parents wouldn't let me buy it and my dad refused to work on it if I did get it. So I waited and got the good deal, and my dad's pretty happy because he hasn't had to do anything to the car except a simple alignment.

So I'd say keep on looking and you'll find that gem of a Miata.

Really, just as long as it's not yellow, red, or blue I am happy. Black, white, brittish green, and silver are the SUPERIOR Miata colors.

FACT!!!

Good luck on your search.(thumb) I've had my Brilliant Silver 90 for a month now, and I love it!!!! I currently got alot of goodies on the way for my Miata (performance package from www.gomiata.com -RB intake,4-1 header, connect pipe, dual exhaust-, RB type II nose, and a HardDog Hardcore rollbar for use with hardtop).

I also love the gas milage my car gives as well.(2thumbs)

The only thing that's a pain right now, is trying to find a hardtop that anyone wants to part with. Color does'nt matter....it can always be repainted.:p

Sounds like a retarded idea. Good work. Maybe now your life will be complete.

White was INFERIOR due to the problems Mazda had with it peeling off thier early '90's cars with the paint. Every white 1st gen Miata I've seen has missing patches of paint...most 1st gen Proteges, 2nd gen 323s, and 1st gen MPVs with this paint are also missing patches.

Anyone can afford a Miata, it just depends on the condition and luck. Taking education money to buy one doesn't bother me in the least, not that I'd do it, but when you get behind the wheel of one and feel how brilliant the car is, it's worth far more than you'd pay.

(stupid) Do what you want to and know you can handle. Who cares what other people think or say!

After all....when it comes down to it, you're the one who has to deal with it, not them.

So far I am 3 years into school with zero debt. $2-3k isn't so bad. By the time I graduate I should be only $10k in debt at the most.

I know, and while you could pull of an initial purchase, getting a Miata for $2-$3K that doesn't need parts after purchase is going to take some luck.

I have all the time in the world to look.
