i cant seem to boot from the CD on my desktop (im on my laptop). ive tried pretty much everything. it says boot record not found or some s***, so im off to buy an IDE HD and floppydrive since i think it might have something to do with my SCSI/IDE setup confusing the system.

also, help me remember: how do you make a boot disk in xp

****. well if i have two legit copies of windows xp home, one on my laptop, and the upgrade i just bought, can i make a boot disk on my laptop and use it to boot my desktop, then pop in my legit copy of win98 2nd edit to install it?

where do i make a damn boot disk

Or you can just use the CD. Make it boot from CD and your computer should find it. Try disconnecting extra drives if it doesn't want to cooperate...

forget all that crap... copy the i386 directory to your hard drive, then install it from there.

i cant get to any prompt and the hard drive is already formatted. ive tried every damn thing and it wont boot from the cd.

ive even tried just leaving the cd connected and disconnecting everything else. i just doesnt want to find s***.

it says:

"Searching for boot record from SCSI...Not Found
Searching for boot record from CDROM...Not Found
CDBOOT: Memory Overflow Error"

regardless of whether or not i have CD, IDE0 or SCSI as boot device.

you know whats funny? i just went and bought a new floppy for my desktop (the one i had in there died forever ago and i never used it) but i forgot to buy disks. will a boot disk recognize scsi devices?

the only ide device i have is a cdrom...i went to buy a damn ide hard drive and they were sold out :wtf:
anyways, it says on the website you cannot upgrade from a boot disk...does that mean you cant use the upgrade at all from the boot disk or what? or am i gonna need to install win98 then winxp upgrade? :wtf:

**** this legal software bulls***. i spent my money and this bad ass product wasnt worth it. **** whoever cussed me out for having illegal software. see you dont get s*** when you buy this crap from these stupid companies. who wants to send me a copy of winxp full? ill use my serial if possible, or use my old hacked serial.

use the boot disk to get you to a dos promt then cop the i386 directory from the CD into a directory on the HD... then install from there..

p.s. the i386 dir is huge so its gonna take a while

will the boot disk recognize scsi devices? otherwise it wont recognize my hard drives they are both scsi. and will i be able to use the upgrade from the dos prompt?

yeah, but only if it does recognise scsi... you know how to get into your BIOS? if you don't then hit the del key when its booting a bunch of times... then goto boot devices and make the SCSI boot before IDE.

tried that, doesnt work...it skips over the scsi cdrom with both the win98 2nd ed and the winxp upgr in the either drive. dont know why. ive really been having some bad luck with my computer as of late...good thing i have a kick ass laptop with a 15" screen!
