soon to be CX-9 i think
Hi i need you all help. My friend has cx9 and i am in love. Great little car. So decided to get one.

I got a local guy here. He is Selling a 2012 cx9 grand touring leather everything with blind spot monitor for 11000$ 89000 MILES. The car has a texas salvage title. He says that the front bumper and right fender was replaced and the headlights.
I drove it and it drives fine no mechanical issues.Really loved it (hear ya)

Is this a good deal, considering a clean title would cost me around 16 17ish grand.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I thought i will ask the pros over here.

You might as fork out the money for a clean title as you will get most of it back when you sell it. No one wants a salvage vehicle.

Also where's the indash monitor?

Exactly what I was thinking!! That can't be a Grand Touring head unit, that's the head unit from a basic Sport model right? The Grand Touring head unit would have a lcd screen with rear back up camera, I think dealer swapped out the original head unit.

Might fishy without the head unit. More going on with that salvage title than your buddy is letting on. IMO with Salvage I generally take 30%-50% of KBB, (just my rule of thumb mind you) Salvage titles can be real hit or miss. I've seen people get some gems and then I've seen people get absolute crap. YMMV.

I'd run the VIN through Car fax, he may have fixed up a Sport/Touring model with some grand touring front end parts. . .

I can confirm that's not a Grand Touring. It doesn't appear to have the Xenon headlights, 4.3inch LCD stereo or the sunroof. I owned a 2012 Grand Touring with everything except NAV.

I think you're right !

I didn't even notice the lack of Xenons !

boy, someone sure tried to make that look like a grand touring model with the easy cosmetic swaps :

notice the chrome door handles, 20" rims, silver accent interior dash panels

but forego the difficult swaps like sunroof, xenons, backcamera/lcd

Plus would they really total out a 20k dollar car if the only damage was simply a fender, hood and headlights? These are always shady as hell.

To add fuel to the fire, no fog's either, which a GT would have.... @General Klinger's note is the nail in the coffin... A same-year GT owner in the same state as you says it's not a GT

I think we're all telling you, OP, to not get this. It seems fishy with everything that has been mentioned, even if they are just trying to pass it off as a GT. Also, you should be able to take the VIN to a Mazda dealer and they'll tell you about it (or an online VIN checker). The VIN would contain whether or not this is a GT (which it isn't, but that would just verify the sketchiness of the deal).

Also check with your insurance company. If I remember right, in Texas, you can't get full coverage for it. So if you wreck it you're out a lot of money.

Personally, I will never buy a salvaged title. They don't have to be honest about what all was replaced, could have been the entire front clip.

Check with the S.O.S also. Here in IL you CANT title a Salvaged car, but you cant register it. As in, no license plates.

It needs to go to a state licensed rebuilder to be fixed. Every single part that goes on the car needs the Vin supplied so they know it was a black market part, then has to be inspected at a state shop to make sure the work was done correctly. At that point, if all was done right, the state will actually re-issue a 'Rebuilt" title, which you can register.

It's able to be registered in Texas since t has a salvaged title. But resale will be horrible in a couple of years. Maybe half of the current price would be my guess.

89,000 miles in 3 years + salvage title --> I would call that not a good deal, no matter the price.

No fogs either. I'll bet if you could do a VIN search, you'd find it's a Sport. Someone threw some GT parts on there--2 tone leather seats, fake wood trim, so there's some attention to detail by this unethical seller. ODO is probably off with the larger wheels. RUN AWAY FROM THIS CAR.

S/R was optional in '12--but not Xenons or the LCD display. Sport has back up camera in the rear view mirror, right?

How can you tell those aren't Xenons when they aren't on? Good eye...

I just got a 2011 cx-9 touring with 34k miles off lease for $16500. you're not getting a good deal. My car is basically a 2012 considering it was built late Sept. 2011 and bought in November 2011.
