Is there a chip in the key of this car?

I just got this used 2002 car with only one original key. So is there a chip or some thing in the handle of the key? I mean, I just want to have a spare one at home. I am far away from a mazda dealer. Does walmart have this?

Nope, no chips.

You can get a key cut for an '02 Protege anywhere--I got one from Home Depot for ~$1.
