Is the MSProtege worth the extra $$$?

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum and as the name might lead you to believe I have a Ford F150. Now I am looking to get rid of my truck very shortly, infact if my business sells I will be. I am really wanting a Mazda Protege, but mostly the MS.

Right now as it sits I am not really gonna be a cheap ass, so I am looking at an ES Protege, brand new...those around here run about 18k. Now the MS runs about 20k to 21k. Thats only a few grand more...not a lot. So is it worth it?

I noticed that the MS has A LOT of upgrades versus the ES. I will probally get the MS but I just wanted to know what you all think about it. Was it worth the few extra bucks?


Oh yea, another thing. What is insurance like for you guys? I was qouted at $377.97 a month for an ES, thats full coverage btw. Would the MS be a lot more?

yes cause it's got a turbo allready on it and the PCM is different

In my opinion, it is worth the extra $3-4k, you get a piece of Mazda's history into the import performance market once again. Not to mention a extremely well balanced car. Your insurance quote does not sound so good. Unless thats canadian money?

I live in Oregon.

I live in Oregon, which seems to have really high insurance rates. I am 19 and have 3 points on my record, which is one ticket, one accident.

My girlfriend has an 89 ford probe, and when she lived in CA the insurance was like 62 bucks a month, when she moved up here it went up to a 116 a month.

Andrew if you can afford the extra money this car is so worth it, I just got mine last night, after waiting since September. I am so happy with it, the handling is amazing, I just scared the $hit out of my friend going around a 90 degree turn doing about 80km/h, he has a probe GT as well and said he would never try anything like that.

I think if you stick around here you will see that there are many many pleased people with their cars. Some people have had some minor problems but when the car is working properly everyone loves it, and I am not implying that there are alot of problems because there are not.

If you are looking for a sporty car and the best bang for the buck its either a MSP or a SRT-4 in my opinion. The MSP has a better all around package (power,looks, stereo, handling), while the SRT has more sheer power, handling is almost as good as the MSP, stereo is nothing special I dont believe, and in general the looks are not as sharp as the MSP in most peoples opinioins.

But in saying all of that we may be biased

Yes. Essentially $3,000 more than my wife's Protege ES. Both are wonderful cars. Hers is perfect for her. She loves it! And the MAZDASPEED is perfect for me. It is the best $20,500, I could have spent on a car. No question!

But yes this car is worth it, I was debating also it was going to be the MSP, or a IS300. I tested both and feel more in love with the MSP then the IS. That alone says alot. But With the MSP you are getting more bang for the buck, and more unique, better handling, and a nice roomy interior, oh and Factory TURBO. Only losses were no Mark Levinson sound system, no RWD, and no V6.

All of this is IMO, and slightly biased.

I'm in Oregon, I pay about $108 per month for my MSP. But with so many people wrecking them and getting speeding tickets the rates will go up Nationally next year.

As for the car, it is well worth it. Like Greg, I love my Mazdaspeed!

Yup me too, even though I got my first rock chips last night, dont know where but they are on the hood in a bad spot for touching up. Im bummed, but I still smile every time I look at the car.....
