is the mazdaspeed3 only a 2007 model?

no - the mazdaspeed 3 will be produced as a 2008 model. You can place your order for one now.

If the MS3 follows the same production as past mazdaspeed models, it will be produced only for 2 years. Meaning after 08 the MS3 would no longer be produced.

however, anything past 2008 models is speculation @ this point.

He probably just told you that to get the 07's off the lot.

all other mazdaspeeds have only been a single year production, even the MP3.
Went MP3, MSP, Mazdaspeed miata, mazdaspeed6, mazdaspeed3. If the 6 and 3 do well they may stay on in 08. I havent heard either way.

I am new here and after reading this post I have a question. I am in the process of looking at cars and have narrowed my choices down to either a 2008 Honda Civic Si Sedan or the 2008 Mazda Speed 3. My local Honda dealer told me no significant changes were coming out in 08 for the Si.
Does anyone know of any changes in the Mazda Speed 3 line?
I am in hurry to get the car as I have a bike and a truck to drive till it arrives.

The change will be that it is not produced at all.
If it is, it will probably just have further attention made to the motor mount issue.

The MS6 went two years, 07 being its second and final year.

There will be an '08 MS3, dealers are taking orders for them now. The dealer I spoke to had heard of no changes; however, that does not indicate there will be none. There is a popular rumor circulating that there will be 2 new color options, but that is pure speculation I believe.

My local Mazda dealer told me today when I stopped by for a brochure they would be produced for 2008 and he could take orders starting in June.

The dealer that took my order for an '08 (including a deposit) better not be going on speculation!

I thought the 07 mazdaspeed 6 was just all the ones they couldnt deliver in 06 from production delays

well considering there have been 3 accepted orders for 08 models I would beg to say you, sir, are wrong. (I work for a Mazdaspeed dealer. this is where I have my facts, where are you getting YOUR info?)

feel free to email mazda for confirmation, but the schedule is set for an 08 model year.

and to clear up a little misinformation from another.

the MSP had 2 half year runs (03 & 03.5), ending with the retirement of the protege.

the MSMiata ran mazdaspeed models in 04 and 05, ending with the retirement of the model generation.

the MS6 ran 2 years (still current) for 06 and 07. MS6 will be ending @ the end of 07. (with a new 6 generation to be replacing current generation 6s)

the MS3 is currently on no "set" timeframe, however it had an 07 production run and is currently slated for 08 production (starting actual build roughly in june). following previous trends, its safe to assume that it will, infact, only last 2 years.

Please people, do a little research before bashing correct information :)

EDIT: and 1sty, the 07 MS6 was its own production run and not leftovers from 06(which would be illegal to actually sell as an 07 model).

Would it be reasonable to expect $1,000 off the MSRP? Or are these cars really hard to come by?

depends entirely on your current area market. However its safe to assume that discounts will be hard to come by.

Its happened on the MS3, just rarely however. My area? You wouldnt see a discount and in some dealer cases theyve actually added market adjustment markups...

Nice info. And I didnt think they were left over cars. I though production had backed up so much on them that they were not able to get the quantity they wanted to into production until the following year.

that I cant actually answer truthfully on.

they limited production #s from the 06 model year, leaving less produced for 07... But I wouldnt be able to tell if that was their actual plan or not...

My personal opinion? They realized the 06 models werent selling as well as predicted, and limited the amount set for 07 to compensate...

I am in hurry to get the car as I have a bike and a truck to drive till it arrives.

Let me shine a little light for you, seeing how I came from an 06' Civic Si Coupe to a MS3. I am not sure what the price tag is on the 08' Si Sedans, but I am going to safely say around 21-22k w/o nav. In most cases, the MS3 Sport model should have an MSRP around 22,850, so they are not that far apart.

I had a first year Si (2006) so it had its preliminary issues, a 3rd gear tranny "pop out/grind" issue, a cold start issue (ran like a dying animal) and the seats constantly felt like they were ripping or getting broken if you put any weight anywhere other then the center. Some of these issues were suppose to be "improved" but not totally resolved in 2007+. Some quick comparisons for you:

Performance: Hands down, MS3 is 10x more fun to drive, the Si has no lowend torque or no torque at all until VTec which can only really be had if you are revving the crap out of it. Si got slightly better gas mileage, but not enough to really brag about. the Honda Transmission was beautiful (when it didn't grind in 3rd).

Suspension: I loved the suspension and handling in the Si, it was a little stiffer then the MS3 so you felt it a lot more over all the little bumps, but it was more solid and yielded a much more "connected" feel to car.

Braking: Both were solid, but the MS3 took the cake in my book in that department, it has some rock solid stoppers!

Interior: Si had a few more amnenities I liked (moonroof, NICE Stereo w/MP3, Digital speedo, etc.), BUT after driving it around, it gave me more and more of the "boyracer" feel in the interior and I wasn't diggin it too much. I like the more refined cleaner look of the Mazda interior, I just wish it had more options included with the sport model. But the interior space and practicality of the MS3 stomps all over the Civic.

Exterior: Both cars are niiiice... I like the styling on both, I like that fogs are factory on the MS3 and not additional cost like the Si. I really don't like the wing on the Sedan Si's either or the flat rear end.

Modifications: Both cars are semi expensive to mod as they are new, difference being, the current MS3 mods seem to yield MUCH better results then products available for the Si. K-series motors are known to be stout motors, but take a good amount of work to make any lowend power, the MS3 motors potential is still uncertain, but very promising.

Warranty/Service: All of the problems I had with the Si, I was told were "normal" with the Civic, dealers reason: "Honda put a lot of work in to get the most out of these little 4 cylinders, so they are pushed to the max." So my cold start never got fixed, and the tranny thing was not an all the time grind, so if the tech didn't hear it when he drove, they shrugged and said it's fine. Mazda, is at least fixing everything I ask them to no questions asked.

Wow... good luck reading all that... if I wasn't bored at work, I would have NEVER typed that much.

Thank you for providing this information. I can get the Si Sedan (no nav) out the door for 21K and the MS3 for about 26K (dealer only orders them with the ST package-no nav).
I don't doubt for a minute the MS3 isn't worth the extra 5k it just a matter of me deciding if I want to spend it!
I recently sold my 01 Corvette as I want something I can drive year around up here in Alaska. This is why I am looking towards a front wheel drive car. Life is full of choices and it only takes a few more thousand to go up another notch, then another, lol. We currently own a 06 LX Civic and have an 07 EX manual on order to replace it. I like the interior of both cars but to be honest I hate the boxy look of the MS3. But I could live with it if the performance is there.
The Mazda dealer came across as these cars are rarer than hens teeth and he is only allocated eight per year. This gives him a reason to keep the prices high but is he correct?

Hes right... There are only 5000 alloted units for the MS3 with part of these being sent to canada (250? dont recall exact #s).

IIRC we only had 8 for the 07 model year as well.

You live in Alaska? I bet that has a lot to do with it.
