Is my protege 5 specially tuned?

I realize the old EGR bung would need to be welded shut, and a new EGR bung weld on. Plus I would need a custom mid pipe. So yes, it will cost more than the ODX, but I was wondering if it worth the extra effort since you have experienced both types of headers. I see that this header is going to move the main cat down a bit and may make it just a cat with ends on it. :)

a 4-2-1 will give you better mid-range power where a 4-1 is more top-end...if i had a choice, i'd go with a 4-2-1...just make sure the one on ebay will fit and it's made from good materials.

Recently with the CAI, UDP, and SLS motor mounts I seem to have great low, decent to great mids, and decent high. If I do the VTCS removal and polish that will help the highs. I definitely understand that this 4-2-1 header helps with mid range, but was wondering since you have to do a custom midpipe with high flow cat would it not help the upper as well? I mean it looks like it would flow better than the OBX because your not ramming all the exhaust into one location. With the mid-pipe matched to the size of the header it should flow very well and have no restrictions for highs.

I thiniking I might go with the 4-2-1 of the Ebay. I figure I can get the header, and then save for the installation with the custom mid-pipe. Normally I would put it on myself, but I think it would make more sense to have them put it on and fab up a mid pipe to make sure it fits.

Oh and it will fit, it's for the 2.0L for the 97-99 2.0 4 cylinder (our engine). I have also seen the picture of the Mazda header and it looks just like it. Heck, I was looking at the protege garage mid pipe, and the hanger it uses looks weaker than the hanger on the header!

I would post the pic, but it's protected. Very smart business man.

i'm still kinda torn on exhaust changes of any type on my P5. My 79 Ford Truck I had forever had full length headers going into 2.5" Flowmasters with turndowns at the rear axle....so i've kinda gotten used to being in something quiet (sleep)

although....I wouldn't mind getting a *mild* growl to the car....but i absolutely DESPISE the fart can sound. (braindead

mate it up with a racing beat cat-back...you'll be VERY pleased.
